Sorry to say we lost Grumpy today to the effects of cancer. No other information at this time. We lost an amazing friend and Valkyrie whisperer.    Undecided

Sad to hear...met him the one time down there several years ago. I know he was an important part of your Florida group and will be sorely missed by all. Condolences to his family and friends, especially  those of you there in that tight knit Florida group RIP angel

While I never met the man he obviously was one of the good guys and a friend to many on the board.

Sincere condolences to all of you who knew him and lost a friend as well as sincere sympathies to his family.

Very sad news

We lost another good one

Do you know if he had a favorite charity that I could donate to in his honor?

It is something I like to do to honor the person who died

After many phone conversations last year I had plans to call in and see him in May this year, when the weather was mild enough for me to ride out of Ottawa Canada
With the border being closed I missed that opportunity to finally say hi face to face.
What a loss…one can tell by the comments on this board that he was truly loved.

I've told the story before......but, I'm going to tell it again. I started out with my '01 blue&white. Added some canvas bags for trips. Ended up after a couple years meeting the SoCal guys and Brenda and I really liked the idea of an Interstate. I had been coveting Green&Silvers for a while. Spent a few months chasing down ones in the West, with no luck. Found one in Tampa Bay that I really liked. But, I was very leery. I had never bought much over a couple hundred dollars on the Internet. The seller posted it here in the classifieds, along with eBay and Craigslist. But, he just had that one post, and I was not sure. I figured I'd ask if anybody knew him. Turns out he had sold stuff to some of the guys. Young guy with a wife and kid. His wife had a good job, he watched the kid and parted out bikes at home. Made me less suspicious. One of our members James III suggested I get ahold of Grumpy. Grumpy went over, looked her all over and gave a very good rundown. Ok, so now it was on ! After some negotiations and air reservations, I was off. But I couldn't go for a month because of work.
I was a little nervous going across country without knowing what the rear end looked like. Grumpy offered to do the service when I got in to town. By the time we got the bank and DMV stuff all taken care of and I got over to Bill's it was 1 or 2. I was restless to get on the road, but Bill and I bullshitted for hours. Bill wouldn't take a dime for the work. But, I couldn't do that. I think I forced a hundred dollar bill on him. I only made it to Tallahassee that night, and was a little disappointed with myself. I don't think Bill and I agreed on one thing politically. But we were bonded on motorcycles. Because of being set back that day on time, I ran into an ice storm in Texas. Scariest 900 miles of my life. But I wouldn't change a thing.

Bill will be remembered by countless people like me. He lived a good life.  cooldude

Met Bill in Eureka Springs Ar. Can't recall the exact day but a Ride was going out and Bill Ross and I had determined it was gonna be Too cursed hot to Ride. So here the three of us are in the motel parking lot tween breakfast and lunch drinking Ice Cold Old Style beer as the ride left. And as I recall none of us three threw a leg over that day cuz we were imbibing. Ross and I Really enjoyed talking and hanging out with Bill. Eureka Springs was our first-Ross and I-Inzane. Met and Made a Lot of FRIENDS at the Inzane's I've been fortunate enough to meet there and as Rob stated-because of a common bond of a Very Special Motorcycle. Fair winds good roads there Bill. RIDE SAFE.

Bill is not but 1/2 hour from us. We have been over to his place many times and he has been to our Valk parties many times. He will be sorely missed in our Florida group Cry  After a bit of time Bills wife will be asking for Pappy and I to help with selling his antique boats/motors and his Valkyrie, Valkyrie tools and parts.  We want to do as well as possible for Ann.

Grumpy dazzled me with his knowledge, attitude, and old man-ish demeanor when I had the chance to meet him. He was a pleasant reminder to respect my elders and listen to their wisdom. He, like the rest of the FL group, inspired me to seek an original Valk to go along with my 2014.

Rest well Sir. May the memory of your deeds inspire smiles for years to come.

Yes, losing Bill is tough to take. He was a good friend to me as well as many others. We were close to the same age so were able to often talk about things of the past. Many times we would call one another just to chat, not about anything in particular....just visit. The man had a big heart and a wry sense of humor, sometimes catching me totally off guard with a double entendre. Others have spoken of his generosity, I've also experienced it as well. One time he took time out to fix something for me on his lathe and insisted I give him nothing for his efforts, so when he wasn't looking I stuffed $50 into the crack between the seat and tank on his Valk. He fussed at me over that for months...."when I say you owe me nothing, I meant it!" So just to rub it in a bit, at our next meeting I paid for his lunch. Grin We laughed about it but he never brought it up again. When money was tight for he and Ann a few months back and we were sending  donations, I also sent some twice by two different means. After the second one, he called to talk a bit and I could tell by his voice he was choking up a bit. Not too long ago I got his phone number from Jerry, different from the one used in the past. I only called once and realized it was difficult for him, that was the last time. Bill...a good friend that will be missed.  Sad

Jerry, that picture reminds me of a good natured teasing we did with each other a few years back. I was kidding him about the need for the chains across the front of the vest and while he was chuckling about it claiming Ann was to blame, I opened my jacket(a cool day) to reveal mine with the same thing in front. Good memories indeed.  Grin
