VRCC #437 "Form follows Function"

Colorado Front Range - elevation 2.005 km

I'm in my 2nd year membership.  Logon/pw broken.  No I didn't forget them.  ACLDN's "forgotten logon" scheme doesn't work.  Neither does their captcha verify system. When I first tried to setup a legal contact / intro repeatedly to one of their local referral attorneys over a year ago, he never responded.  He was allegedly a military attorney based out of Co. Springs.  I told ACLDN about it but they passed the buck - not their problem.  However they were johnny-on-the-spot in support when it came time to renew the subscription and pay them more money.  I am totally unimpressed.  I got the referral to sign up with them here on this board from one of our oldest members - both in age and seniority here.  BTW I may be the earliest member here - or close.  Gale Scalzi asked me to co-edit this club with him when he founded it around 1998.  I declined and he asked Lamont instead who accepted.  I instead became a "contributing editor" as "Oz" called me.

I was looking to find the answer, is ACLDN going to look for excuses to deny my coverage.  Like, if a business has a "gun free zone" sign are they going to hang their hat on that?  I'm thinking they will.  Though those signs carry no weight of the law here. I'm not walking across their parking lot with my protection in the car while they have a "YOUR SHEEP/VICTIMS HERE" sign like that on the door.

Here's their "Applicant's Statement" on the membership application -

"APPLICANT’S STATEMENT:
With  my  signature,  I  hereby  attest  that  under  the  laws  of  the  United  States  of  America,  I  am  not  legally  prohibited  from  possessing  firearms,  that  I  am  18  years  of  age  or  older,  and that I legally reside in the United States. I understand that any grant of benefits is limited to lawful acts of self defense with no additional criminal charges (unlawful possession of concealed handgun, for example) associated with the incident."

Everywhere in their online prose they refer to "lawful self defense" and paraphrases of that.  eg., Here's a quote:

"Immediate funding: When a member uses force in self defense, upon validating that it was a legitimate case of self defense, the Network sends a deposit against fees to the attorney of the member’s choice and can also assist with bail. This help is extended after any lawful self-defense incident whether you use a firearm or other legal option."

Now I'm thinking if I do need them for their legal insurance I will have another problem finding out I'm not represented after all.

Do you have any relationship with this outfit?  Or is it bogus?

I can't speak to ACLDN, but if you're looking for an alternative, give US Law Shield a look.

https://www.uslawshield.com/

I've been a member for a few years, luckily haven't had need of their services, but I have a friend who has.

It's still in the courts several years after the incident so he hasn't told me all the details of the incident, but US Law Shield has been covering him since day one, and all these years later they're still fighting for him in court, both on the case itself, and also making sure he still has possession of his firearms and NFA items as well.

(Oh, and remember the church shooting in Texas a few months ago, and the hero Jack Wilson that head shot'ed the perp from across the room? He's a member too... )

(Other than being a paying member, I have no other connection to them and get absolutely nothing if you or anyone else choose to join.)

I've been a member of this group for a couple of years.  Have never needed to use them but they've answered the phone when I called with a question.  I've been told the phones are staffed by retired police officers who can give you immediate advice while waiting for a lawyer to get contacted.
