I have a standard decked out like a Tourer (windshield and saddle bags). I run 36 psi front, 39 psi rear.
I got 4,000 miles front and rear on my previous set of tires, Metzeler ME880s.
My current set is Metzeler ME888s. With 5,000 miles on the tires, the front is worn out and the back is only 50% worn - I thought I would have gone through two rears for every one front!
I want to try Avon Chrome, but I don't want to toss out the rear tire just yet. Can I replace the front with Avon and leave the ME888 on the back, or will I have squirrely handling?
Thanks! Ken

They will be fine. No squirrely, unless from old/worn tires.
I only run Metzler fronts and used to run the rears before car tires. I always ran them 41psi front and rear.

You’ll get more miles on any tires if you bump up those pressures a bit

Yeah, those pressures are what was recommended for the Valk tires available back 20 yrs. ago. Things are different today, the 40/42 front/rear is good.

I'm currently running an Avon Cobra on the front of my Interstate with a new Bridgestone on the rear. They're working great together. I like the Avons but the prices have gone up significantly. The Bridgestone rear was about $50 less.

I'm in SoCal with high ambient temps ... with starting at 40F/42R psi I've been afraid of a harsher ride and less grip ... but maybe I'll experiment with that ... Thanks!

yup 40/42 will get a touch more miles, I generally run 2 rears to one front with Avons. its definitely a little harsher riding at 42/40 but they do get less miles with that drop in pressure but more comfort, everything is a trade off

Same here and using balancing beads. Soooo smooth! Cobra has 16,000 with .095 tread left @ 40psi.

And just for comparison, I have a Michelin Commander II on the rear of the Std with 11000 miles at 38 psi and still looks good. Have never gotten over 9000 out of any previous tire even running 42 psi in the rear including Venoms. My Metz 880s on the front of both bikes are about shot at 8200 and 9050 miles. I generally get around 15 to 16000 out the fronts. I don't know what has changed but it seems weird to me. I do run a lot of oil & chip roads here. Have never noticed any adverse or weird handling by mixing tire brands. YMMV

I lived in Florida for 53 yrs., talk about higher temps!!! I just set the shocks to a lower setting, otherwise it's a tradeoff of mileage vs. comfort.
