I voted this morning

Being the curmudgeonly untrusting person that I have become there was no way I would consider anything other than casting my vote in person. Andrea and I got to the voting center parking lot (rural school) at 05:15 and we were number 6 and 7 in line. By the time the polls opened at  06:00 there were easily 250 people in line and no parking spaces left in the lot. Everyone was very cordial and polite and once we got inside the process went smoothly and quickly.

We made sure to thank all the poll workers as they clearly have a very long day ahead of them.
All in all a very positive experience.

Got there at 5:30 and was 1st in line.  Was thinking the line would be much longer due to the horror stories I've been hearing about folks waiting 3 hours to vote early.  On my way out, there may have been about 20 people on line.  They let in 3 at a time.  One elderly, one handicapped, and on of everyone else.  Since there were no elderly and no handiapped they took 3 of everyone else.

Judy and I just got back from voting. We waited  an hour for the going to work people to get through. Only two other customers. In and out like the wind but it still counts the same as if we had to wait hours in the pouring rain. Except it’s a beautiful day here today. Now where’s the popcorn.

Weeb Ewbank was a very good friend of mine.  He was born and raised in Richmond IN.  I heard him say many times in his last few years:  I have been all over this country in my career and the friendliest people I have ever met were Hoosiers.

I voted several weeks ago, as per Oregon's voting by mail.   I did take our ballots down to the county court house to their drop box.  Only had to wait for 4 minutes while the lady in the boat of a car in front of us tried to stick her ballots in the slot.  Those Oregon folks who haven't caste their ballots before now had to go to a drop box, last day to mail in ballots was 10/27.

Off topic I know and it may have been addressed before but.....

Regarding keeping weapons loaded, what has always concerned me is the affect on the springs. 

It seems I saw a movie once (or maybe it was a book I read) that insinuated that keeping a spring compressed for long periods tended to make the spring less "springy".  And might lead to the weapon failing to auto load. 

Could not the same thing happen with the firing pin spring (long termed compressed limits its springyness).

I've had WAY more than that fully loaded, with MANY spare loaded mags, for MANY years.  What good are spare magazines if they're not loaded?    

Regarding keeping weapons loaded, what has always concerned me is the affect on the springs.  

Bill, modern magazines and especially modern mag spring steel can be loaded for years without much chance of trouble, or springs taking a set.  Now if you have firearms approaching the antique, and the antique mags for them, then there is reason for concern.  If, after a few years, you want to go through the exercise, you can take all loaded mags and dump the cartridges, and wait a few days, then load them back again (but mix up the rounds when you do).

The bigger issue with loaded mags (especially larger ones) is having a fully loaded mag, against spring pressure for a long time, cause the top round in the mag go out of round against the metal mag lips, and then perhaps cause a jam on initial clambering, but even that risk is fairly remote.

FWIW, the AR15 (and other) Magpul P-mags come with dust covers, which if snapped down on top a fully loaded mag, holds the top round off the lips of the magazine while stored, until removed and put in the firearm.  So no top round deformity.   And I like P-mags.  

And some will load larger magazines with less than full loads to reduce spring pressure or top round deformity (like a few less rounds than 30-20 (rifle) or 15-17 (pistol), or whatever they hold.  And if you keep handful of them under-loaded, it's not like being short a few rounds each is a problem (and you are supposed to count when you shoot anyway).

I went over to vote at O dark thirty and there was a very long line in the cold.  So I went home and returned at 11AM and was 2d in line.  Done.

The 18” 20 ga is always loaded. Plus 5 revolvers that are spread strategically around in not obvious view but the 12 ga isint. But might be tonight

Thanks Jess.  That is what I remembered from another source.

I keep my under loaded by one round, just because.  I do rotate the rounds in and out of the clips on a somewhat regular basis.  

I had not even thought about the notion of a round be compressed such that it would become "not a round".  Another good reason to rotate the rounds.  Just to keep them round.  And yes, pun intended.

Voted mid morning. Took 1hr 5min. Weather was great. Didn't see anyone breaking the rules or being unruly. Matter of fact the folks working the polls were friendly, professional and efficient.

I can walk to where I vote and a neighbor that lives within sight of the polling place had been watching since 5am and told me that the line was several times longer just before the polls opened, and it was much colder then also.

My wife voted early (in person)(couple of weeks ago) and waited over twice as long as I did today. She tried to talk me into going with her but anytime I had checked on the lines they seems to be much longer than a normal election. There were very few places open in our county and only one or two machines at each. With the main risk only being bad weather... turns out I'm glad I waited.

Here in Florida our Governor just said Biden had early leads all over Florida with mail in ballots. But now those leads are erased. Trump now leading even in the most democrat counties. As more people vote it seems to be mostly republicans voting in person. Looking good down here for Trump

       After stopping at the A T M at my bank and verifying my old peoples check was indeed deposited across the road to the P O mail bills and as I went to City Hall to pay my bill there I passed my Voting place. Jammed up bout 0900ish. West Plains fer Breakfast and dallied about to near 1315 HRS and breezed right in showed the Required I D and my Voters Card and Happily did My Civic DUTY. Funny that Required I D-I Know some of the people working my Voting Place and they told me after I asked-Not One Person complained bout The Voter I D REQUIREMENT here in MISSOURI. And one of the Older Ladies also pointed out-even her deez Friends did Not complain about the I D Requirements.   The Only down side I could see today about Voting here in Missouri-Illegal to carry Any Weapon into the polls. I also PRAY for the outcome the Majority here on Our Electronic club hoiuse comes to pass.   RIDE SAFE.

I wasn't carrying this morning either. Here in Massachusetts, most polling places are the public schools. Now, school isn't in session on voting days, but I'm not going to push my luck. No voter ID here in the commiewealth of MA, but I imagine you all knew that already. I just tell them who I am and I get a ballot. What could go wrong there?

Ya, but, you don't have too. Your guy will take your state easily. But, they just may let you.
