I know there are several very tech savvy people on this site.  So I have a question about FaceBook and user security.

A couple of days ago, my daughter says here FaceBook account was hacked so she has had to delete it.  She told me that she used two factor authentication and got a request for access which she did not initiate.  She declined the request but the person making the request got access to her account anyway.

Thats the story.

I have two questions.  Which may are may not be really germane.

One, I don't use two factor authentication on FaceBook.  I seldom, if ever. log in on any device except my MacBook Air (not my cellphone).  I always log off when I am finished.  I use a fairly complex password.  Therefore, it would seem, I should be fairly secure unless I click on some link in Facebook that might steal my credentials.  Is that a correct assumption?

Two, if I were to log on to FaceBook using my cellphone (as I think my daughter does) and use two factor authentication, that would seem sort of redundant since the cellphone would also be used to complete the logon either using a text message or an email.

And finally, not a question but sort of an information survey, I don't include my specific data on FaceBook (i.e. actual address, DOB, ect) because it can be easily (it would seem) accessed by not only FaceBook people but someone else if it I was hacked.  I use the same standards on other "social media" accounts.

What should I except for security from FaceBook and what should be shared with others.

I only share data ( on Facebook) with my friends and all of them are either family members or people with whom I am personally acquainted.  This comes to mind each time I post a video on FaceBook when I am on the road since anyone who can access my account he tell that I am not home.  I know, maybe I am a bit "anal" but security is important.

I have the same issue if I post videos here and on the Goldwing forum of which I am a member.

Thanks for reading, and if you have comments, I am interested.

I think two-factor is still good in your example... a bad-guy would have to
know your password and have your phone. If bad-guys know your passwords
and have access to your phone, you're toast anyhow :-) ...

Facebook is plugged right into government computers and FB uses all the information they can about you and anyone you know. It's completely insecure as far as I'm concerned. They make their money selling your info and it is very specific info.

Even though I don’t use it much for social networking, some things I do are aided by it. I have two different accounts for different purposes, and neither is my real name, though people who actually know me could figure it out. My Facebook birthday is believable, but not true. The email addresses I use are forwarders, so disposable if necessary.

I just checked by stuff on FaceBook and my personal data (location, birthdates ect) is locked.

At the time that seemed to be good enough.  Now, knowing what I know about FaceBook, I think I will change some of that data.  Just in case.

I also opened up an account on  www.mewe.com  Just to see how it works.  It is no where near as popular, today, as FaceBook.

Given that big tech facebook, google (youtube), twitter (others?) appear to be in the bag for the Dem party and are using all their firepower to censor and silence anyone not in agreement, they should all be boycotted unto extinction.  I may be wrong (on the players), but it's what I read.

This is in addition to security issues.

From my perspective conservatives are hooked on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. At least all the ones I'm around.
