coming home from work a long line of cars on rural main hwy. all doing 63 mph saw a truck come up behind me passing people right and left and I had a 2 second following distance or so with cars in front of me at least 10 cars in front all going normal 63 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. Truck tries to pass me with a car coming at us and NOWHERE for the truck passing me to go literally.
We were neck and neck side by side doing 65 mph with the car coming at us 3 wide in a 2 lane hwy. What a complete bonehead. I turned on my truck brights and blarred the horn for 15 seconds long until he decides to pass the next set of cars all with oncoming traffic coming at us still.
Some people have a death wish for sure and should be pulled off the road and beaten to a pulp for endangering everyones lives.
It was not like we were all doing 55 mph but 63 mph which I consider normal flow of traffic in my 55 mph speed zone rural hwys.

That dud may have a brother here near da prez. We were in my Brothers pick up in a 30 MPH zone hill and curve NO PASSING ZONE and a dufus in a jacked up 4 wheel drive dodge passed us. da prez and I were both-W T F over? And at the point he passed us da prez already had his left turn indicator on. Personally I do NOT care should they wanna off them selves. BUT whole nudder story when they take other innocent folks with them. RIDE SAFE.

I almost think someone that stupid has an extreme emergency going on - to take such risks on himself and others. Or just being a stupid asshole - they exist as well.

YAH, agree to a point but I had to slam on the brakes and move over into the ditch since was as it was 3 vehicles in a 2 lane road my truck and the other looney in the truck passing side by side with the vehicle am sure in the other ditch coming at us. Can you say head on collision at 60 mph? No real time to slow down he had NO passing zone and NOWHERE to get in between the car in front of me. I shined the brights on him and blarred the horn but he kept passing or attempting to pass car after car even with cars coming at us on a busy main rural hwy. forgot to say 10 minutes down the road I saw 2 separate accidents with police cars all around I wonder if that jerkoff in the truck caused any of the 2? I highly doubt a police officer could get to the 2 different accidents that quickly though down the same road? I admit I pass a lot of vehicles doing under 60 mph me driving 64 mph usually, but do not do it rarely ever with cars coming at me.

Been finding myself mellowing out this year driving the auto's and riding the bike. The bike has no limits when it comes to passing but I just keep a steady 5 mph. over and keep my eyes peeled for the "mentally impaired". I prefer to have them in front of me instead. My biggest beef is the "creepers" at stop signs. The more they creep the slower I go and with a stare down. Tailgaters while driving the car, get the emergency flasher treatment and on the bike, the Back Off warning system which I usually apply long before they get to close if I deem they are showing aggressive driving before hand. You can't protect your rear as easy.

As hard as it is to do, I agree with this. You never know, the jerk may have a legitimate emergency! (at least that's what I tell myself!) I've been on both side here, been passed in "no passing" zones (which is truly aggravating) AND have passed up people, well exceeding the speed limit, when I had an "emergency situation" and needed to get home! The wife was recouping from a wreck with a severely broken leg and on medication that made her dizzy/lightheaded at times. I was at work trying to contact her for a couple hours, to no avail. For her not to answer her phone was very unusual! In my mind all I could think is that she "fell and couldn't get up"! Whacked her head, bleeding out, etc, etc...! So I left work and BLASTED home to check on her, expecting to find her laid out on the floor! Luckily she was fine, just wasn't around her phone to hear it.

yes - sometimes very hard to do. And I share that sentiment that it is better to have such people in front of you rather than behind you.

Legitimate emergency , have your four way flashers on. I was driving a dump truck and trailer with a back hoe . A road to the right with a stop sign , a car runs thru it and left turns in front of me. He is followed by another car. I just barely missed the first and swerved to miss the second. I see the trailer tip and the tires almost clear the ground. I snap the steering wheel back and regain control. I pulled over at the next wide spot. I called the owner and told him what happened. I also said "I will never again swerve to avoid some idiot at the risk of hurting myself". I delivered heavy equipment for many more years. Yes , I did swerve.

It's not the intentional maniacs that bother me so much (assuming they don't hit me). At least most all intentional maniacs are paying attention.
It's the phone talkers, texters, fighting with the kids in the backseat, putting her panty hose on while driving to work people that piss me off the most. Their driving is erratic and hardly any different than drunks.
I've often thought it would be fun to get a couple of those magnetic door signs for my vehicle that says:
Jimmy's Driving School for the Blind; Please give us a wide berth.
Wearing very dark glasses.
It's a joke officer. What do you mean it's not funny?

I taught a good number of people to drive, and ride in my lifetime.
I have (considerably) less patience these days, and have given that up as a hobby.

agree, use your hazards and leave them on maybe even flash the brights and dims off/on rapidly a few times which to me mean emergency, but NEVER pass with an oncoming car coming at us at 60 mph with NO TIME AT ALL to pass in front of me. That is just asking to be killed. It was pretty scary knowing he had NO room in front of me 3 car lengths MAX between me and car in front with the car coming at us and already side by side by side 3 cars on lane 55 mph rural road all at once.

If you blew your horn for 15 seconds why didn't you slow down. A accident at 60 miles an hour would not have a good result.

I agree with the texting, phone, playing with kids in back. But from my old truck driving days I've almost wrecked several times watching them put their panty hoses on and always thought it was worth the risk LOL

I had a 2 second following distance or so with cars in front of me I had to slam on the brakes and move over into the ditch since was as it was 3 vehicles in a 2 lane road Cookie I see several problems with your story. If you were traveling with a 2 second distance between you and the car in front of you, you were almost 200 feet behind the car directly in front of you. (63 MPH is 92 feet per second) That in itself is not the issue. The fact that you had to slam on the brakes and hit the ditch because you were all of a sudden traveling next to each other with the other car not having enough room to get back into your lane, is in my mind an issue you created. If that truly was the case, that means you had to close the gap of almost 200 feet to near nothing as the driver was trying to get in front of you. Sounds to me that the other driver was not the only one with some road rage. Jim I am not trying to say the passing driver was not wrong, but I am insinuating that you made a bad situation much worse by not letting him in front of you, and it could have resulted in a the death of some innocent motorists.

. . . . but NEVER pass with an oncoming car coming at us at 60 mph with NO TIME AT ALL to pass in front of me. That is just asking to be killed. . . .
. . . . SEVERAL times had to avoid major collisions with oncoming traffic coming my way 40-50 mph forcing them to go into the gravel since the bikers not riding single file ON OR OVER to right of the white line by shoulder of the road. . . .
So is the difference that the oncoming traffic was 60 mph when you were being passed and only 40-50 mph when you were doing the passing? Or is it always okay to pass slow moving bicycles even if it forces oncoming traffic into the gravel?
