Is there anything magical about the 8mm crush washer (90544-283-000) used in both fork legs, or will any 8mm crush washer work so long as the ID and OD are the same?

Correction, thanks to my Hubcap friend, used in one leg.   Embarrassed

It might be special that it is only used in one of the fork legs  Wink ...

I did my forks a year ago (dang, time flies!) and I used a honda one...

Well, you are right about that. The left leg doesn’t have the damper, so....

The question still remains. Like most OEM parts, this thing is overpriced.

The question still remains.

Yeah, it looks just like a copper crush washer to me, I guess it
might need to be some particular thickness? I don't have the
expertise to offer an authoritative opinion. I've gotten little bags
of assorted copper crush washers at Advance Auto though...

If my memory serves me right, the washer is about 2mm thick copper. Here's a listing of all the models of Honda that use that particular washer if needed.  https://www.partzilla.com/product/honda/90544-283-000?ref=ab385962bba540622005b2f0c7211128bd215

I'd check Napa and the like before paying $10 + for a pair of two of them.  I use a copper washer for oil drain plug in place of the stock aluminium crush washer.

I Anneal mine, heat it with a propane torch till red, then dunk it in a bit of oil, good as new, use it even on brake crush washers, never had problem with it, yes I have a KLR and I’m a frugal SOB

+1
Annealing copper washers is easy and effective.

I though the left leg was the damper rod ... right was cartridge type?
