The news reports that there will be up to 20,000 National Guard deployed in Washington DC for the upcoming inauguration.  In the news phots, weapons are visible but my question is:

Are the guard issued ammo as well?

Searching on line indicates they will "have lethal weapons for protection available."

The Kent State incident tells me no but with all the scared Dems politicians in Washington, it's really hard to know.
Ya can't tell looking at magazines if they are full or empty unless you look close or pick one up to my experience.

Ron--interesting that you brought up Kent State.  I was actually a student there at that time, but not on campus that day.  I was thinking about KSU when I made the post.  Connie's uncle was in the Guard there, but not near any shooting.  What a memory.

The thing to remember is that very few military/NG are actually trained for riots and crowd control.   So, I have my doubts that ammunition will be issued unless stuff hits the fan (which, I doubt stuff will hit the fan).   I also doubt there will actually be 20,000 NG present but, that number is intimidating if you're on the opposing side.

It's my understanding that the new military is scared sh!tless of ever issuing live ammo to anyone, short of Afghanistan.  You can almost be certain no military in DC has any ammo in rifles or on their person right now.  Many pictures show empty pistol holsters too. (Of course demonstrating a complete lack of trust and support for their troops, and valuing political correctness over their lives.)

On inauguration day, who knows.

I would not go to the inauguration, but would love to see a million souls show up outside all gates, stand and remain entirely (eerily) silent with turned backs, and at the perfect moment drop their pants and moon the enemy.  And preferably with bag pipes, lots of bag pipes.

That is free speech right there.  Without a spoken word.

It's also possible they're concerned the military might rise up and turn on the installation of an illegitimate president too...

Yes, and did you notice the recent order signed by all military chiefs of staff reminding everyone they need to obey the law and follow orders.

Weak, weak, and worried, worried.

The dems love Kabuki theater, I'm surprised they haven't rolled in two dozen M1 Abrams, and set up a few dozen sand bagged belt-fed machine gun emplacements.  Course there's still time.

The fear is, if you give them ammo they might not use it as you thought. The Liberal really don't understand how far they pushed this.

I thought this was supposed to be a small subdued social distanced inaguration . I suppose DC is large enough for 20K guards persons to be socially distanced.

As long as they stand well back from the royalty, so as not to ruin the photo ops.

They seem pretty unconcerned the troops are sleeping in piles on the marble floors inside.

When Americans saw this they began sending care packages of comfort items, and authorities had to tell them this was inconvenient and to stop, at least at first.

Our guard unit was sent on a security mission once,(would rather not identify the place), and we were not going to given live ammo either. MANY bought their own and carried magazines full. Just not the one in the M 16. Just saying.......  When an alert went off, you can bet your fanny loaded mags were exchanged.
Luckily, no shots were fired.   Yeah, I know, this will be scrutinized, etc.   Cheesy
