Interesting if true.... General David H. Berger, Commandant of the United States Marine Corps., refused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s request to use the Corps. to safeguard Biden’s Jan. 20 inauguration from Trump supporters and insurrectionists.
A Pentagon source speaking under promise of anonymity told Real Raw News that Pelosi contacted Gen. Berger late Monday night, and she beseeched him to commit 5,000 troops to help ensure a peaceful transition of power and to prevent a repeat of the Jan 6 siege of the Capitol. Gen. Berger, our source said, didn’t understand why Pelosi needed additional soldiers to augment an already impressive force assembled by federal and state officials. That force includes 15,000 National Guard from D.C., Delaware, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, and an undisclosed number of FBI and DHS agents who arrived in D.C. Sunday night.
Pelosi said she wanted “battle ready” reinforcements because “radicalized Trump supporters and kooky Qanon conspiracy people” were about to converge on D.C. She implored him to reconsider, arguing that it was the general’s patriotic duty to quell uprisings and guarantee Biden’s ascension to the Oval Office.
Her statement made the general explode, our source said.
“Don’t lecture me on patriotism, Madam Speaker. I’ve served this country with distinction for 40 years. I’ve spilled blood for our nation. What have you, a self-serving elected official, done for your country?” Gen. Berger said.
Pelosi further enraged him by saying he was answerable to Congress.
“I answer only to the president, and as I understand it, Donald J. Trump is still president and commander-in-chief. I abide in the Constitution as it was written, not your interpretation of it,” Gen. Berger admonished Pelosi.
Quoting our source, “When her intimidation tactic failed to sway Gen. Berger, Pelosi tried a different tactic: Begging and flattery.”
Pelosi claimed that the National Guard’s “weekend warriors” were ill-prepared to repel an army of “mad Trumpists.” Battle-hardened marines, however, were more capable of defeating “rabble rousers,” she said. “You have the best trained soldiers in the world, and America needs them.”
Gen. Berger was unmoved. The only way Marines would be deployed, he told her, was if President Trump himself issued that order.
“If you want us to help combat his supporters, I suggest you get him on the phone and tell him that. If he orders me to, I will. Otherwise, I suggest you listen really hard to the words escaping your cracked, poisonous lips; they’re tantamount to treason,” Gen. Berger allegedly told her.https://foreignaffairsintelligencecouncil.wordpress.com/2021/01/14/marine-corps-rebukes-pelosi-we-dont-work-for-you/

I have to be honest here, I very much doubt this story. Having served in the Marines (enlisted) and in the Army (as an officer), I don't believe the General would have blown up at Speaker Pelosi and said what was supposedly said to the Speaker.
Did that conversation actually occur? I have no idea but, having dealt with several Generals and a few politicians, those kinds of conversations don't happen. Generals don't get promoted and their careers aren't extended by tugging on the Speaker of the House's chain. They know better. The Speaker also has significant control of the service's budgets. No General is going to piss in that pot for the good of their Corps.

I also doubt the accuracy of the reported conversation.
Nonetheless the final point is accurate. The National Guard can be summoned by the mayor of D.C. (?) but the U.S. Marine Corps and other full time military services answer to and are commanded by the President of the United States.

Actually, it is my understanding that since DC does not have a governor (which normally commands the NG in a state), the DC NG is commanded by POTUS (Trump until Jan 20, and maybe beyond). I apologise if that is incorrect, but my full bird colonel friend at the pentagon explained that to me.

My understanding was that the NG in D.C. are Maryland National Guard invited into D.C. I could be wrong.

(Or his subordinates) The Governor of Maryland had his National Guard ready and waiting after he was asked by the DC Mayor and Steny Hoyer. They had to wait 90 minutes to finally hear back from the Secretary of the Army for authorization.

In any event - our active duty Military does NOT report to the Speaker of the House , unless by terrible circumstances she became POTUS.
I too cannot imagine a 4 star officer blowing up at the Speaker, but I could imagine his side of the conversation becoming quite clipped while remaining formally correct with the Speaker.
And if the Speaker is THAT scared - maybe she should be....

Either way, I think Trump has the goods on pelosi, and she is worried Trump is going to pull some last minute stuff that will not end well for her, and several others. This is why she approached the JCOS and Marines because Trump is in commands of the 20,000 NG that she requested to protect the inauguration ceremony. This is why it was some important for her to get him out of office.
If you were the peoples choice, you should not need 20,000 troops to protect you at your inauguration.

That ain't happening without a successful assasination attempt. Mitch McConnell is not bringing the Senate back until 19 or 20 Jan - just before the Inaugeration.

I also doubt the veracity of this, but if it did happen, it sounds like objective evidence that Ms Pelosi should be involuntarily confined for a 30 day period of psychiatric observation and evaluation. Along with about 80 lbs of other objective evidence.

20,000 troops, looks a lot more like a military coup than a peaceful transition of power. This looks like more like something in a South American country than the United States. Seems to me that the legitimate winner of a fair election wouldn't feel the need to be surrounded by so many troops.
