The problem with leaving a notification is that the topic heading would still show, when the point is to keep a lot of political crap from being the first thing people see.

Am I wrong in assuming everybody here can be PM'd?

Delete the thread / post then send a PM as to why.
This way the reason is plain and you don't have to assume what wasn't right, or try to anticipate what mindset the person who deleted your post was in.

That would be a lot of work to message everyone in a thread.  This is a club, not a full time job for the moderators.  The Rules of the Road are pretty clear.  Also, if a thread denigrates to the point of pulling or locking it, some posts may be lost that were not particularly offensive.  If a post quotes a post that is pulled, it will be pulled as well.  If you have a question about something that was removed, you can certainly PM a moderator.

Over the years I've suggested a "Political" section a few times to no avail.
That way if "New comers" (or anybody) check it out and don't like it, don't go there again. If they do and get irritated it's on them only.

So, now we're trying it, but in steps.  But you're complaining about that, so I'm not sure how to respond to that.  We haven't made an off-topic forum previously because with having the tech board, classifieds, and regional boards, there may not be enough motorcycle related topics to keep this forum going.  This forum was supposed to be for general discussions, as the name implies.

All you should have ever really needed is a General "Adult &  Respectful" Discussion board, then all would be fine Smiley Wink

Lately I've had a few of my "political" responses "just disappear" with not one iota of an explanation of why!
Left me to just ASSUME I aggravated someone here so on the next post I would wussied it down thinking that would be better only to find those gone also, again no explanation.

Now I'm left wondering unless you're part of the "core group" of political responders here don't waste your time!

I expect this one to disappear too.

I remove a lot of posts.  I'm not willing to take the time to add to that process.  As F6gal suggested, if one wonders he can PM me or email VRCCstaff@gmail.com.

Most of the removed posts are for personal attack or disrespect.  That disrespect often manifests itself in the form of demeaning pet names for a group to which many members belong or for a public figure supported by many VRCC members.  As F6gal mentioned, anytime a post is removed all posts quoting the offensive item will also be removed.

It seems a lot of our members are unable to address some issues without resorting to personal attack or disrespect.  It doesn't seem to happen as often in face to face conversations.  A good rule to follow is to ask yourself before you post, "Is this the way I would say it in person?"  Depending upon one's honesty with oneself it could improve one's keyboard conversations.

There are no special groups.  I treat everyone the same.  Some piss me off more than others but I try not to let that impact my moderating behavior.

I notice the "General Board" seem a lot quieter these days...
