Chris Overberg, wife of Dr. Ron Overberg (Capt. Speedo), passed on Saturday, January 16th after contracting Covid19 on January 4th.  Chris rode pillion on Ron's Interstate on many DFW Chapter rides and was a sweet and wonderful lady.  She and I conspired to get Ron to ride with me and go to his first and so far only Inzane back in 2015.

Ron has also been diagnosed with Covid19 but his symptoms have been less serious and he is quarantined at home. Please join me in prayers for Ron as he goes through this incredibly difficult time.

That is so quick, less than 2 weeks, that would be hard for anyone to get their arms around. Very sad indeed.

I hope Mark (Rainmaker) doesn't mind, there were further details on the Texas board, so I'm replicating his comment here:

Ron asked me to post this additional note:

"Dr. Overberg's COVID HITS OUR HOUSEHOLD

Since her diagnosis with COVID-19 about two weeks ago, Chris’s lungs, liver, and kidneys have been ravaged by the virus. While she has been kept comfortable, it has been determined that there is no hope of recovery. Today, January 16th, after several days in intensive care, Chris went on hospice care to ease her into the next life where she will be with her mom and her son. The lord is calling her.  It will be over by the time you receive this.

Last week I also tested positive for the COVID virus but remain free of severe symptoms.  When I complete the quarantine and test negative, a Funeral Mass will be arranged for Chris.  This will take place at Saint Paul the Apostle Church via Facebook livestream.  Additional information will be provided once arrangements have been made.

Chris was the love of my life. She was everything I wanted and needed. She was my rock! Physically I am fine, but without Chris I am not much. I don't know what to tell you at this time about our nutrition counseling business. Chris and I loved helping people, but now that she won’t be with me, I will need time to find my balance, so I can help others. Please be patient as I navigate this new challenge.

Ron Overberg"

Mark,

Thanks for posting the news... I only recall meeting Ron that one time on the ride we shared in the Smoky Mountains once upon a time... Funny how brief encounters can leave lasting memories... Such a nice guy, such a tragic series of recent events, so much heartache and other concerns with which to grapple all at once. I'm hoping and praying for the best possible outcome for him... Miss y'all...

I pass on to you this message received at the VRCC staff email:

Notes from drron:

The funeral for Chris is Friday Feb 12th at 12 noon, in the St. Paul Catholic Church in Richardson, Texas. You may attend in person, or use this address for Facebook, which will Live-stream the Funeral mass.

After the funeral, Ron and Beau, the boxer, will go to his brother Rick in Florida for 2 weeks.
My contact: 972-239-1148, cell 972-816-5892, drron@flash.net. I will do my best to monitor everything.
This is the last email, from here on out I will use the newsletter. Updates: the weekly newsletter that comes out on Monday, subscribe at www.nutriwellness.com

Call if you have any questions, you won’t bother me, I will be glad to help. Chris and I loved helping people and I still do and will continue.

Monday Feb 8th
The funeral is almost here. I am missing the hugs, kisses, and quiet touches. I am missing the comfort of just knowing that she is home or just simply being in her presence.  I look at her favorite spot at the breakfast table where she liked to sit and stitch, bead, paint rocks and acorns.  She isn’t there..

Obituary
Christine Harkin Overberg, loving wife of 39 years, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at the age of 81. Chris was born on October 8, 1939, in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from Central Catholic High School, now Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1956.  She went on to study nursing at St. Anthony School of Nursing in Oklahoma City.

She had one son, Anthony Witkowski III, with her first husband, Anthony Witkowski Jr. After Anthony Witkowski Jr. passed away Chris attended TWU and became an occupational therapist.  In 1982 she married Ron Overberg and they built a nutrition consulting business together in Dallas, Texas.  Chris had a green thumb; always   trading and giving away plants from her flower beds.  She was also an accomplished "beader". Many of her family and friends cherish the earrings, bracelets, and pendants that she created.

“My Memories of Chris” can be found at www.nutriwellness.com.

Chris was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jim and Florence Harkin, and her son Anthony Witkowski. She is survived by her husband Ron, three brothers (Ken, John, and Tom Harkin), three nephews, a niece, many cousins, and her beloved boxer Beau.

A funeral mass is scheduled for February 12, 12PM, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Richardson.  The mass will also be live streamed via Facebook on the church’s Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the North Texas Food Bank in Chris’s name.

Long term plans

My family will come together sometime after Chris’s funeral to travel to a special place to scatter ashes.  We will wait until we have our mother’s ashes (DOD 2019) from the UTSW Willed Body Program and take those along with our father’s (DOD 2010) and Chris’s ashes to an area near Brownsville, Texas.  My sisters, Maritza and Sabina, my brother Rick and myself plan to scatter their ashes on Boca Chica Beach, between South Padre Island and the Rio Grande River.  (This is where SpaceX builds and launches their rockets.)  That beach was the joy of my parents and their boxers and the same for Chris and me.  The boxers would run and splash, Chris would beach comb and I would swim.  Sunsets, counting hawks, studying birds and collecting shells refreshed and rejuvenated us.  It’s the perfect place for their ashes.

Know that it special to hear from all of you....
