Kicked Connor McGregor's azz, referee stopped it or he would have hurt the man badly. Good fight for the underdog!

Only watched the highlights, it seems that Poirier managed to weather the storm in the first round while clipping McGregor's lead leg setting up for the 2nd round.
I'm looking forward for what happens next in the division.
I personally don't think that Khabib will return, there is nothing for him in it (i.e. he got enough money for probably the next 2 or 3 generations, has a simple life style and is busy training the next generation of Dagestani fighters).
I hoped that this time Dana White will allow Charles 'Do Bronx' a title shot against Poirier.
Do Bronx is in an 8 fights winning streak and totally dominated Tony Ferguson (which is a freak for not tapping after that arm bar).

And by a great American fighter nonetheless! I think Dustin came to right, and wasn't intimidated by the celebrity hype this time around in the least. Maybe Connor has been focused on his Irish whiskey distillery, and forgot be had a fight with a real competitor scheduled.

Sounds like Poirier isn’t interested in Oliveira, but wants a rematch with Conor or Diaz (BS). He knows Oliveira isn’t a “money” fight but Charles deserves it. I don’t think Chandler deserves a title shot right away but that sounds like that’s what Dana wants. And it sounds like Khabib isn’t coming back, and rightly so. The only fight that made sense was if Conor won impressively. ...of course, as a Canadian, I’d love to see GSP come back and fight Khabib but Dana really doesn’t want that to happen.

I think it is a much greater, honest sport than Boxing ever was. But, the one thing that is hurting the sport the most is Dana White. How mostly one man has played matchmaker over the sport turns me off in many ways. There used to be some great Japanese, Thai, WEC organizations. They have mostly been absorbed by UFC and Dana. How he has treated fighters like GSP over the years sucks. Now really the only other survivor is Bellator. I haven't seen last nights fight yet. But I look forward to it. I've never been a fan of the Irishman. I look forward to Michael Chandlers career in the UFC. His win over Eddie Alvarez goes down as one of the greatest of all time !

I respect the heck out of GSP...but he apparently told Dana he would defend the middleweight belt if he won it from Bisping, which he didn’t, so Dana has a point in being ticked at him. Dana didn’t like that he surrendered 2 belts. The first one was understandable, just like Khabib, he had proven all he could prove and there was no one left to beat after years of dominance (with the exception of his last fight vs Hendricks).
Dana doesn’t like these “legacy” type matches that sort of ignore the rankings and who deserves what. But Dana has created this situation by putting on many of them over the years.
GSP vs Khabib would be a phenomenal fight. And it would make sense because Khabib is retiring anyway. Winner gets the title then retires/surrenders it as the GOAT. I dont know who wins that fight but he’s the only opponent that has a chance against Khabib at this point.
Chandler is very intriguing but hasn’t earned a title shot yet...IMO.
Love seeing Poirier reaping the rewards after a long career full of great fights over top opponents.

@Beardo: Agreed about GSP, to me, one of the greatest (together with Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and Antonio Rodrigo 'Minotauro' Nogueira).
That being said, he is past his prime and I'm afraid that a fight against Khabib wouldn't end well for him.
Chandler holds lots of promise, but I also don't think he has earned his shot to the title yet.

Pfft. I’m 46 and just hitting my prime. GSP’s still a kid!

That was very good. Thanks can't wait to see the fight myself. Leg kicks are an underrated part of the game. I think the YouTube commentator had it right when he pointed out to imagine if Poirer had a good head kick.

I would love to see a good fight between Poirier vs Charles 'Do Bronx' Oliveira. Oliveira has a much better BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) than Poirier, which on the other hand I think is a better boxer. Even though Oliveira has improved his boxing a *lot* (look at Ferguson fight), I would say my money would be on Poirier *unless* Oliveira manages to make it a ground fight. That being said, Poirier ground game doesn't stand a chance against Khabib. The only other fighter that *maybe* could beat the ground game of Khabib would be Oliveira. Interesting times to watch UFC.
