My one string of lights in a big silk vine plant up on a pedestal stays up all year (forever).

At Christmas, and any time I have festive feelings, I plug it in.

I don't much care about entertaining my neighbors with outdoor lights.  Or the work it requires.

I hate being cold, so I hate putting up and taking down Christmas lights. If I don't put them, I don't have to take them down....

Agreed, I mean really, who wants to be cold.   That excuse worked for years while living up by Lake Erie and even in Central KY.   Doesn't work so well living an hour away from the Gulf of Mexico.

Remembering that cold is still a relative term.   What's cold to you is freezing to us and what's hot in AZ is  totally different in Colorado.

Regardless of any excuses I might come up with, Christmas lights aren't meant to be up and on all year long.   The "special" woman in my life (my wife) likes them so, they are still up on the Chicken Shed.   That's as far as I'm willing to be pushed.  Wink

So...how do the chickens feel about it, or are they too chicken to say anything.  Roll Eyes

My daughter fussed at me for not putting up any decorations, said "you really need to have something up for Christmas." I gave her my address!  Wink

Growing up, we never had lights up. Never mattered to me.
Meeting my wife and knowing her childhood. The first year we owned our home I put up lights. That was '92. I actually bought a ton of stuff one night and hid it in my truck. First decent day in late November I took the day off and spent it putting up the lights so as to surprise her when she got home.
Been doing it ever since. Kids loved it when they were younger. Daughter still does, son not so much, lol, not at all. He does help me put them up. Handles all the "high" stuff. Still do it for the wife and probably always will or at least as long as I can physically. The cold has never been an issue for me. Worked out in it most of my life but, each year I get older it seems to get colder, lol.
Lights come down ASAP after Christmas. One year lights on 2nd story stayed up until March. Too much ice, nasty Winter.

I was pretty efficient this year up the week before Christmas and down by the date of the insurrection.  I must admit though, that my light display consisted of plugging in one of those laser projector thingies.  It took about 15 min.

When we moved here 10 years ago, put couple deer (we had the before we moved here) and ran 5 strings of lights on a pine tree by the deer.  last year the deer's lights finally went the way of most cheap lights and the deer were falling apart.  They got canned.  The string of light, LED, decided not to work as they should and shoulder didn't like using the pole to string/unstring the lights.

So this year DW decided we should get rope lights and wound the around the railing on our porch.  Lots easier to put up, easier to take down, only one section for rope light decide not to work.  Looked great.  Also easier to take down and store.    Took them down on the 30th of December.

told my wife a long time ago. you wanna decorate, go for it, you want lights up. go for it. but keep in mind. i didn't put the crap up and i'm not taking it down.
years ago she had this bright idea she was going to plant flowers in the yard. my only response, do not put them in the path of the mower cause i'm not steering around them.
been married 38 years this year. so she must not be fed up with me yet.

I don't mind putting them up, I think they add something to the holiday season but, I don't want them up all year long.   As the years go by, I may have a change of mind on that.   One thing I do know, ours don't do a damn thing for the deer.   Not a single one of them has a glowing red nose.

Well, it hasn't worked with Santa's Deer but, if it keeps the Mrs. happy, it's a winner.  Wink   cooldude

I took down most of the lights last week. Kept one set up, a set of App Lights. These things have an App for changing their display. There's a Christmas display, a valentine's one, an Easter one, a st Patrick's day one, and so on. Gonna leave it up for use all year round.

I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing but, the lights (the ones still on the chicken shed) have different modes.   None of them work with the deer but, they keep Mom happy.  Wink

Ron,

I'm afraid I'm not entirely sure just how to respond... well, and be technically correct, that is... Would it be proper to say, "I do not still have any Christmas lights up," when I never put any up in the first place? I mean, it's true that I don't have any up now, but the word 'still' implies that I once did... doesn't it...?

Ron, if you can keep the wife happy with a couple strings of lights on a chicken coop, you just might be the luckiest man I ever met.   cooldude 2funny

There does seem to be some truth to that theory.  Wink

There are several ways to measure that, not sleeping in the guest room or, chicken shed ranks high on my list.  Wink

I took down all but my candy canes along the walk. The stakes are still frozen in the ground. They'll come down as soon as I can get them out with out breaking the plastic bases.
