Something to take you away to a better place for 90 minutes or so when ya got some time. After the 5 minute or so intro, this video starts out at the Sasquatch Inn, about 2 minutes from my place. The guy heads up North through my local fishing territory on the backroads into the Chilcotin territory of BC. I've travelled many of these roads over the years (paved roads on 2 wheels, back roads in the truck and back in the day with an old 4 wheel drive club). A lot of these places remain unchanged for the most part, over the decades.

Beardo and I are conjuring up a plan for next year, to pick up a couple of used  KLR's  and do a lot of this guy's route.

Enjoy...

Looks like fun!

I've often thought that riding a KLR from the US Mexico border to the tip of South America would be a great adventure!

Here I sat, after a hellish few weeks of a big project at work that had me working ridiculous hours, 10 months into this covid crap, with no annual bike trip this past summer to reset my sanity clock...and msb throws this idea at me.  Did my soul ever need that.

Brought it up to the wife...with a little apprehension...expecting “we just paid off our new bike and you want to buy another one?!?!”

Instead, her reply was....riding a KLR the 20 hours to get to Mike’s would sorta suck after your old ass has gotten spoiled by Valkyries and Goldwings. Maybe you should just send Mike the money to find one out in BC, there will be more KLRs out there than here on the prairies. Ride the Wing out there then switch bikes. Sell the KLR after the trip. I’ve already explained how expensive it is to plate motorcycles here, and I don’t really have the need/trails/roads here for a KLR, so that makes so much sense.  cooldude

Summer of 2022 is a ways off, but it’s a fantastic idea to look forward to. I prefer solo rides or touring with the wife, but msb and I have so much in common, riding wise, fishing, outdoors, politics, general outlook on life, if I was going to do this with anyone, I can’t think of a better person to do something like this with.

Daylong makes a seat for the KLR that looks very comfortable.

that video has some very impressive scenery as well as dropoffs.  I would be too chicken to do that road on 2 wheels at my age and condition now, but only on my ATV with all 4 wheels planted going say 30 mph or so is all on that dirt road.

After my 1st EVER tipover on my ATV this past summer trip way up into northern WI close to MI border ever in over 15 years driving ATV's I do not want a 2nd tipover.   My ATV flipped over, my fault, after my hand slipped on the throttle thumb full bore down a 2 foot embackment with HUGE boulder in the middle throwing me up the other 3-4 foot embackment on other side,   flipping the ATV over on it's side nearly flipping over entirely on top of me was VERY VERY close of being crushed with 800+ lbs. on top of me.  Luckily the HUGE 4 foot wide 2 foot tall boulder rear rack/side of my ATV landed on that rock keeping it sitting sideways.  It all happened in about 2-3 seconds no time to react.  Next time keeping my hand/thumb off that throttle NOWHERE near it for going down threw my whole body forward thus slipping my hand onto the thumb throttle full bore just that split second.  Not severely injured but one heck of a time me and the wife trying to upright 800+ lb. 2-up ATV from it's side.  I thought pushing an ATV off it's side would be fairly easy for 1 person to do but even the 2 of us tried for like 20 minutes making several attempts before just barely uprighting it plus did not help the way the ATV was sitting going downhill and awkward positioning.  Just glad told the wife to get off before going down on that trail and I looked all over to go AROUND but too many small poplar trees every 1-2 feet apart to go around that downhill with huge boulder in the middle of it.     Then spent the next 3 hours hitching a ride to go get our truck/trailer 20 miles away and 2 quarts of oil at gas station since oil was pouring out of the air box area from sitting on it's side facing downhill.

My 16-year-old son and I will be taking up trail riding as soon as the the snow and ice disappears, and I've already picked up a '78 PE175  enduro.  The second dirt bike might be a dual purpose like a Suzuki DR200 or a Yamaha XT200/225.  Would I be able to tag along with one of those? Since you two would be on those huge 650s, it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask you to carry my camping gear between you, would it?  Grin
