My new to my ‘01 Valkyrie clutch master cylinder window was a bit brown but not bad. I decided to change fluid anyway. When I emptied out the cylinder it was coated on the bottom with brown mud. Shocked Looks like the PO only added fluid when needed and never went further. I disassembled the master and cleaned it all up. After about 1/2 hr of bleeding the system, I have clutch again. Luckily, none of the mud was in the line.
Now on to the front brakes.

Be prepared to rebuild the calipers, I guarantee that sludge is behind the pistons as well. They may bleed clean but the sludge stays there until you pull the pistons out, search a few threads on piston removal first.

Unfortunately, I’m sure your right. I’m gonna attack the slave cylinder this week and order the caliper parts. New braided lines also. While a lot of maintenance items were done by the PO just before I bought it and it’s in excellent condition, some things obviously went by the wayside. The next to tackle will be the belts and pulleys.

Might want to adjust the valves. That seems to be an often over looked item.
