What do you mean by “more timing”. The IS ECM is programmed for slightly more advance. This brings the power band down so there’s more grunt at take off but less at passing speed. I had two standards one with an IS ECM. I preferred the standard standard.

I/S ICM has more initial advance up to 4200 rpms, then both ICMs have the same advance curves.

So I/S ICM provides more part throttle advance up to 4200 rpms providing better mpg.

I found mine on Ebay from Pinwall Cycles. If you look for a used one, look at the printing on the case.  The Standard/Tourer ICM has MZO on it. The Interstate one has MBY on the case. This is an IS one on Ebay right now (no affiliation with the seller):  https://www.ebay.com/itm/1999-Honda-Valkyrie-1500-GL1500CF-Interstate-ECU-COMPUTER-CONTROLLER-UNIT-BLACK/324468701801?hash=item4b8bd77a69:g:1E4AAOSw5WdgFFZx

If you added an IS ICM to a different bike, didn't you also have to add a temp sensor too?

There also was the carb needles too being different.

don't know what the difference is , that's way I am asking, just heard the IS ICM had added more power , If not I'm good with what the bike came with. Not wanting to do the timing advance mod. thanks for the advice to all of you , it helps in the thinking what all I want to do in tuning up my bike.   BIG THANKS.

I had a I.S. ICM on my 98 Tourer and it was noticeable but not like wow.
I would probably buy another one if I would get another 1500 Valkyire.

added temp sensor is not needed.

I/S springs not required although they will provide better mpg in the lower rpms and sooner power in the mid to upper RPMS.

Do US-models Standard/Tourer have a throttle position sensor on carb bank?

European models do. This sensor has to be disconnected if a Interstate CDI is used.
The IS ICM does not need the input and gets hot if you keep it connected.

See European Standard schematics (red circle):

Sensor in place:

for benefits of an IS ICM in a Standard see post #2.
Shimmed Standard OEM needles or Interstate needles will improve effect of IS springs as written in post#7.
A Dyno Jet kit #1 if you can get one has the whole pack in one.

I don’t believe US bikes have this throttle position sensor

Or http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/ect-mod.htm Much cheaper to do and if you don't like it you're only out a few bucks and IS ICM are $$$ if you can get one.

Here's the plug-n-play version.  https://jerseymcproducts.bigcartel.com/product/honda-valkyrie-ignition-advance-addon

However, this only imposes the ICM's internal settings via a dial... it doesn't change the internal differences between the I/S version and the one for the Stan/Tour
