a/k/a Stuffy. '99 I/S Valk Roadsmith Trike

De Pere, WI (Green Bay)

My Ultimate King Boy is much more comfy than the OEM, sits me farther back for starters. Removing the OEM seat leaves the rear open on the trike so I'm debating about cutting off the rear corider section and trim it to fit with my Ultimate King. I placed the pillion off the old bike on the trike, then tried setting my King in place. You can bolt down the pillion but it prevents the King from latching by about 2", and that's without even mounting my backrest. Plus, with the pillion in place it leaves a lot of open space around it between that pad and the trike body. The OEM I/S seat fills the rear area nicely. The trike had a gussied up version with studs, etc., so swapping it with my son-in-law's whose is plain jane on his I/S. I'll then cut his down and once cut/trimmed to fit I'll fiberglass the bracket to the front where it bolts down then send it off to my friend for some new leather. When I get too old and feeble(or join my Rita) to ride, the trike goes to my daughter....in case anyone is looking to acquire it.  cheers  Grin

I'm just wondering if anyone had ever done it before...cutting it down like I described.

Literally working on one right now.  Gel inserts showed up on Monday and the new foam showed up yesterday.  With rain all weekend I am hoping to make some serious progress and have it done by Sunday.

I was getting an OEM driver seat, and was going to add it to a Mustang rear seat, but it's stuck across the border waiting for it to open again so I can pick up my parcels from a mail house.

I don't know how they'll mount together, but I'm going to try to customize the drivers seat for myself, and put it on my IS.

John I don't think you're going to end up with much of a seat with a chopped down back third of a stock interstate dual tour.

Unless you need passenger seating, why not just use a fender bib in back (Mustang, or maybe that VRCC vendor that makes stuff), or a solo rack if you can find one?

They do sell some small pillions that stick on with suction cups, that might serve your purpose.   https://www.amazon.com/RECTANGULAR-PILLION-PASSENGER-SUCTION-CHOPPER/dp/B01E6GKD6E

Jess, here's why a pillion doesn't work, it leaves too much open space around it. The trike body is shaped to fit the back half of the one piece OEM I/S seat which is much wider than the corider OEM pillion as used on the Tourer and Standard models.

Here's the pillion with my Ultimate King Boy. The pillion is in position, however the rider's seat is at least 2" forward of being able to latch in place. Plus I don't even have my backrest mounted at this point. I might call Ultimate to see what just the back seat of a 2-piece I/S set might cost.

The way the Roadsmith kit is mounted, the back half of the rear fender is removed. Granted, I could still use my rear fender bib which was designed to match the seat and tank bib. But as with the pillion, it leaves a gaping hole in back. I have a nice studded I/S seat that I would gladly trade for a stock ungarnished I/S seat if someone is interested. I hate the thought of cutting up this one.

John, I didn't know a trike was that different in back.  I don't know squat about them.  Sorry.

Maybe Pinwall or ebay has one for reasonable.  (looks like $150 and up)

I'd give you my perfect one, but I already traded it away.

Am I recalling someone moved the IS trunk to behind the drivers seat, where the passenger would sit?

It didn't look too bad. Never thought much of it, since I have my wife with me on rides.

Was it a green I'State? I have this picture but it's not from a "good" angle.

Sorry for the drift.

I can't imagine any other reason for cutting one up. Give it a whirl!    cooldude  If the first time doesn't work out,  I have one I could probably part with for try number 2.

Ron, if it's a plain jane OEM type would you consider a swap? Reason being, this one has studs around it and a concho with a leather tassle on each side. The extra flap for the studs is a bit faded, was thinking of using some polish and buffing it out a bit to get some dark shade back into it then selling it then go looking for a plain OEM. Hate cutting up a seat like that, I can post a couple pics if necessary.
