Hey everybody, my boy is 19 and has been wanting a Valk for a couple years but didnt have the money. He got one that had been in a slow crash and is trying to rebuild it now. Do any of you know of a set of front forks at a decent price? He is really wanting to bring this old bike back to life, but the prices he is finding on eBay unfortunately is pushing him toward parting it out. Everything he needs that we can tell right now is front forks, front fender, speedo and tach, headlight, and side and center covers. If you have a lead on any of these at a decent price I would certainly appreciate it. I hate to see the big girl be put down, but at some point it just isn't worth the money.

Thanks Dusty. He needs the fork slides definitely, and possibly the fork tubes. This looks like just the tubes. Basically, we can find the full set on eBay for around 500 - 600 but that puts him out of his budget. He is hoping that he can find a set a little less expensive.

FYI
I wrote off my IS, front end collision, bent forks/broken fairing, it was a good thing the parts I needed at the time was more than I could afford.
Turns out after I stripped the parts off the frame and it sat outside in the weather, rust started showing up at all the weld points. Then the frame was noticeably bent.
Today, a good used frame can be had for a few hundred. Other parts, still high.
I hate saying it, but figure out how much you would get from parting it out, and see if the amount you get would buy you a whole working bike. At the time, I made $7K. I bought a working IS for $6K.

that very well may be the way to go. frame is my biggest concern also. And of course you have no idea about it until you start riding out or strip it. My son is comparing the differences in parting it out versus trying to rebuild it and I think he is leaning toward a part out. But he is still getting prices for parts to figure it out. I think a part out it probably a good idea too. He is still able to learn a lot as we pull it apart and clean up and repair parts before selling.

It’s a shame, but forks are a high commodity. A lot of crashes are going to destroy the forks. Then you’ve got the guys that need them because of wear and pitting.

Maybe try Pinwall. They've got over 3600 Valkyrie parts and I found front forks with the triple tree on the second page for around $600. https://pinwallcycle.comGood luck!

Seems any major component on these old bikes are almost always $600 and up. You might try to identify what parts of the forks need replacing and then try to just rebuild what you have. And while it may not be the best it may be possible to straighten tubes with a press, v-blocks & dial indicator if they're only slightly bent.

I guess I'm confused. $600 for a full front fork setup seems pretty cheap to me.

thanks for all the help guys. I think we went through a parts list enough today that he has decided to part it out and try to buy another one that is rideable now. Parts list is up over 1800 now and that is just what we see. I think a part out will be the way to go and then we can find him a decent one for sale somewhere.

I have a set of front forks that aren't doing me any good. They are very used but appear to be in pretty good shape. By that I mean straight. They would be very reasonably priced if you're interested. Shipping would be from 83634 Kuna Idaho. I can text you a few pics if you pm me your phone number. Raymond " Whooray" Hill . (719)649-9700

Thank you. I will let him know. I have told him I would help him but I am leaving the decision to him. Sometimes making good decisions is the toughest lesson we can teach them growing up. I think he is still leaning toward a part out, but if he decides to build it, I will definitely be in touch. If you want to shoot me a picture and price my number is 910-984-7273 Thanks again Dwight

A long time ago while riding my Suzuki I was cut off by a car and bent the forks. They were not cheap to buy so I found a machine shop that was able to turn them on a machine . They came out perfect and it was cheap to do.

I have a 97 valkyrie that I had to spend the 600 on a used set of forks. Mostly because I damaged one of the bolts trying to rebuild my forks because they were leaking. Anyway, I have to put them on still. My old forks are still perfectly good aside from the aluminum bolt on top being a little stipped. As I understand the bolt stripped because I didnt loosen the piece holding the forks in place. One side needs the gasket replaced. They should be perfect for what you are looking for. I'm hoping to take them off and replace them with the used one I bought within the next couple of weeks. You are more than welcome to them if you want them. You would only have to pay to have them shipped if you want them. If you decide you want them just let me know. I shouldnt be more than a couple of weeks in removing them. Again, you would need to replace the aluminum bolt at the top, and the gasket seals on the right hand side. Aside from those two issues the forks should be good after that.
