Checking in to see how folks are faring during this rare, crazy weather event...

Here in Driftwood (just southwest of Austin) we're iced in.  The main road leading into the neighborhood -- which runs along the north face of a big hill -- is impassable at the moment.  As a matter of fact, our driveway is iced over and is now treacherous to walk on.

So, we've got plenty of food and firewood and we're hoping the power stays on!

here in Dallas-the east side suburb-as usual any sort freezing precipitation causes a nearly complete shutdown as there are a lot folks who are clueless  as to how to drive in snow and ice---the worst are the 4-wheel drive pick-ups that since they can go they think they can stop...they mow down the traffic lights and poles at a high rate..much better to stay at home and wait a day or so to melt off...the worst wrecks are a day or two after most of it melts off except on the overpasses...which then drip  down the roads beneath them during the day which then freeze later in the evening leading horrific wrecks including cyclist who are unaware of the danger uglystupid2

It's mighty cold outside but electricity is on, the refrigerator is packed and we're just watching the winter wonderland unfold.  I am planning to take the wife out for Valentine's Day dinner at a local eatery but have a backup plan with lasagna fixin's in the fridge.
