I received my mail-order ammo from Georgia today. UPS has a new delivery thing... they
kind of slow down and throw your stuff in the ditch out by the road and mark it as "delivered
to the front door". When your house is in the middle of 20 acres, the ditch out by the road is
a long way from the front door... after years of reliable delivery down to the house, this has
been going on for a few months...  Undecided

I knew how they packaged it, I'd seen it before. I hope the "this stuff is going to hangfire"
warning is nothing to worry about...

Dann near a buck a round for .380. Wow. I'm glad I only have one 380, a Ruger LCP. After I broke it in I don't shoot it much. Still have a couple of boxes of ammo for it though.

I'm guessing they're selling out of a bulk drum of ammo. The only time I ever received ammo in a heavy plastic bag, that was the case. I did know that going in, though. Most of the time, 50 rounds would be in a box with an organizing sleeve of some sort. Things are definitely different these days, though. Thankfully, I don't need any ammo anymore after that terrible boating accident  Cry

Especially good packaging for throwing it in your ditch.   cooldude Grin

Mine never came wrapped up in plastic like that.  Back when they left it at my front door. (I can still remember the guy having to make multiple trips and complaining how heavy it was.)  Except for certain specialty ammo, or very small quantity, all my ammo has been on line ordered (in bulk) for a long time.

I'm kind of surprised on the light-primer-strikes-in-revolvers warning.  First, not too many revolvers ever came in rimless .380 (Taurus and Ruger made one).  And second, most revolver hammers hit (the primer) much more reliably (and harder) than striker fired autos.  If that happens, understand the round might still go off in a delayed manner, so act accordingly and keep it pointed safely.  Then shoot it a second time (but then throw it away if it fails again).  After being sure it won't go off on delay, look at the primer on the back of the cartridge case, and see if it has dents from the hammer, on or off center, and how deep.  (However, that warning wouldn't be on there if they hadn't already had some problems).

Something isn't right here.

Centered up, but light primer strikes here.  (Glock auto)

There's also some good Utubes on light primer strike troubleshooting.

Shipping ammo in those plastic bags via common carrier is dangerous. The primers exposed to other loose rounds and impacts can go off. I would not be surprised if shippers refused those types of packages.   It could even be in violation of shipping rerulations.

The four rounds in the picture that show random dents in the primers could be from shipping or someone with poor reloading cleanliness procedures. Small trash issues in the primer punch or feed can cause those dents as can poor packaging and rough handling in shipping.

There's plenty of good commercial ammo makers out there (using good solid loading equipment with good quality control) besides the name brands.  One or two rounds may fail to fire but they aren't going to blow up.  The (somewhat) cheaper prices make up for the occasional failures.  It's not what you want to defend your life, but it's exactly what you want to practice with.

The stuff to avoid (unless you know them) is the 1-3 guys who load in a basement and sell off a small table at shows.

I long for the days when I could always buy 50 .38 special wadcutters (target stuff) for $2.50 (if I gave them 50 fired brass in trade) at any gun show anywhere, or $3 without the brass trade in.

I also long for the days when I could order 2-4000 various name brand rifle and pistol cartridges and shotgun shells for fair prices.  I'm glad I did that in the past.

I've got a good Dylan RL550 and some components (and brass up the ying), but I just never took to the process as a hobby.  But I can still turn some stuff out if I have to.

So, I was doing some stuff and decided I wanted to get a 9mm bullet feeder die for a Hornady Lock n Load system.

You know what, you can get one in .45 and .38 but not 9mm/380 special.  I find that sort of interesting.

Just thought I'd vent a little.

Sort of but no.  I did not want use the real autofeed drum.  But this specific piece.

https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/00005095330/lock-n-load-bullet-feeder-die-(3809mm)

It is interesting you can purchase this for the above die.

https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item/00005095350/lock-n-load-bullet-tube-9mm-3-count

But you can't get one (the feed tubes) for 38 special.  Then I did some math and if I am correct the 38 special (actually .357 did) is with in a couple thousands of an inch of being 9mm so the 9mm bullet feed tube would work for the 38 special.

And this is fun stuff.  You get to learn, build, and you can see your results quickly and prepare for future stuff, whatever it might be.

Hey Bill, I just came across this wacky cartridge.

It's called the .17/50 BMG Eargesplitten Loudenboomer?  Grin  A .50 BMG necked down to .17 caliber.

A mach five varmint round that purportedly will travel from Prague to Phoenix before going subsonic.

I'm pretty sure no one makes a rifle for it anyway.

Dann near a buck a round for .380. Wow. I'm glad I only have one 380, a Ruger LCP. After I broke it in I don't shoot it much. Still have a couple of boxes of ammo for it though.

I paid that ($1 ea.) for 5.62 Federal M193 ball in Houston 2 wks. ago but 60 rd. was the limit but I came in the right day! Collector's on Westheimer Rd. has largest inventory than most major gun shows I've ever been to. Just WOW! Saw one S&W M&P  in whole store and it was a used 9mm priced higher than my .45 I bought a year ago.

Was in my local Rural King and they're sitting on their butts with no ammo but shotgun and all 4 cases of pistol display were empty but one and 2 long guns in the rack. I started my planning in 2018 to upgrading my "needs". Still wanting a Howa bolt .308 but...
