I have an Interstate that I've used the "AUX" input on the radio for years.  Always used the same setup.  I had a cable run from the input plug on the radio, up to a pouch at the handlebars, where I plugged in some audio device.  It's worked flawlessly till today.  Now the radio works, and sound comes out of the speakers, but if I switch to AUX, it goes silent.  I have tried three different audio input devices.  I've plugged it in directly at the radio input (under the side cover), bypassing the cord I ran up to the handlebars.  Nothing works.  It's like I don't have a source plugged in.
I will admit that I worked under the side cover and under the seat in between the last time I used the aux and today.  But, there's nothing more to disconnect once I've plugged directly into the radio input, is there?  I'm seeing that wire go directly into the radio.  I can't see any loose wiring.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

I am no expert on this stuff, but it sounds like maybe the controller on the left handlebar got bumped or accidentally switched around to change settings you had on there before.  (involving AUX)

I have two interstates, and I have never taken the time to learn all those functions.

I used to run XM radio (both wireless and then hard wire from the audio jack under the side cover), but quit a few years ago.

I switched back and forth between radio and auxiliary, and got good sound from the radio, so I really don't think it is the system setting.  I'm reasonably familiar with that setup, but it feels like I'm still missing something stupid on my part.

I can't recall off had the settings, but occasionally on my I/S I'll set the output to headset or something and the AUX stops coming out of the speakers.  May want to take a look at that.  When I get a chance, I'll play with the controls to try and recreate it.

I checked that setting a few times, and even considered the possibility that the system wasn't properly switching even thought the display wasn't showing headset.  But, I plugged my headset in, and no dice.  I turned the radio on, and audio came through the speakers.  So, I don't think that's it.

The extension cable you bought might have gone bad. Try a new cable. Wire your devise into the side cover for a test.

I scanned the radio section of the IS radio controls. I just emailed them to you. Look them over, maybe there is something there that might help.

(others, email me if you wish a copy)

Just a thought, maybe the device you are plugging in has the volume turned down or not working.

I tried 3 different devices, thinking that was perhaps my problem, and also messed with volume, and plugged those other devices into other speaker systems.

I tried a new cable.  That was my first attempt at a fix.

OK, thank you.  I've looked it over, but haven't found a smoking gun yet.

If you want to try this... pull the cover on the radio and check the continuity of the AUX IN plug to the solder points on the board.  That little piece could have a break.  Just another thought.

That's an idea.  I haven't looked at the radio black box to see how difficult it is to open up.  I wonder...
