Anybody know the story behind these oil filter covers? I heard something that they were discontinued but
then later somebody bought the design patent and produced a batch. But then also stopped production.
They were over $200 (highest bid) when they appeared on ebay post-production. I guessing if you don't
have a locked garage you don't keep the covers permanently on the bike.

A SS steel powdered sugar shaker from Meijr is a popular slide over protectant/trim piece. As for its fit on the longer oil filter, not sure of fit. Definitely take your digital/dial calipers with you when shopping. SS polishes nicely. You can even "jewel" the finish very easy also.

I don't even tighten the set Screw and have never lost one.

Those are the best covers (for the money) anywhere.  cooldude

Great chrome that cleans up well between changes too.  If you use the longer filter, they still work fine, though the rear quarter inch of the filter still shows behind the cover.  This cover snugs on the filter itself, so you don't crank down on it.

If a rock can hole an oil filter, it would also easily hole a filter covered by a thin Coors Beer can.

Has anyone actually stuck a rock through an oil filter? I have 190,000 miles on my Valk with one trip to Alaska on it and several hundred miles of gravel, dirt, sandy roads with never even a dent or scratch on the filter. question

GL1800, stone impact, ridding in CA, bringing the bike back to Canada.

Not my bike, but a fellow GW rider who flew down to CA and drove it back for a new owner. Impact, then lose of all oil.

Looks like an impact into a curb. A cover wouldn't have changed that outcome.

I don't know who made the cover but I have seen a timing cover and cam covers that match that filter cover.

I cut out the bottom of a can of Billy Beer and slipped it over the filter.  It's quite a conversation piece.  Unfortunately you need to be over 65 to know what the heck Billy Beer is.  Cheesy

You could just buy a chrome oil filter from Amsoil.
