I have purchased a new petcock.  When I removed the old one the screen (fuel filter)that is inside the tank is stuck and I am afraid that it will break apart if I force it.  Any tips or suggestions?

Most of them do stick in the tank. I just use a very small needle nose pliers and work it out.

I have used a fine thread tap with good results.

Yeah, pretty easy and cheap, I always get a new one when
I refurbish my petcock. Petcocks can go bad in such a
way that a cover set won't fix them, but I've taken mine
apart three or four times over the years. The first time
(I wouldn't do this now) I took it all apart, examined the
diaphragm, and put it back together without a new
cover set.

Thanks, I finally got it out but in pieces. It was missing the screen. Is that going to effect anything? I took a picture but can not figure out how to post it on here.
