If it's one of those black menacing ones, you may not even need ammo. Current and potential boyfriends will/have been given links to this video of her shooting a few rounds of my .50 Beowulf..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4YEHqyTcDs

you will not be around her forever, what happens when she off to college soon? Or is she going to commute from home to college daily keeping a close eye on her? I had my share of more than a few boyfriends of my girl and called the cops on one to put a restraining order on him when in high school. Actually, I did not call the local sheriff, was wife's idea. My idea was to go over and beat him to a pulp.

That appears to be a new shade of hair. It looks good. Guns aside, after making nice at first, I think the best policy is to tell the young man that whatever he does to her, you'll do to him. It's the kind of visceral threat that sticks with someone.

Scariest years of my life, when my daughters were teenagers and dating. Even before then I would worry about what type of guys they would meet and date, or Heaven forbid if they might wind up with some loser. Even for someone like me who tends not to fret about things, I could never get it out of my thoughts. I did like to try to put a bit of fear into their dates or boyfriends in their teen years for sure, it was kinda fun I've always been very close with my daughters...I think the guys noticed this right off, so it worked to my advantage in this regard. From what I've seen from your posts especially Serk, you would defnitely have that same advantage Once they got a bit older and more independent and moved out of the house, I think I worried even more as I was no longer as much of a daily influence....but I also wanted to respect their independence a bit (that was hard for me). The younger one was a bit more adventurous in her selection of guys she dated at times, but as it is with most kids who grow up with good parents, she eventually made the right choice when it came to finding "the one", as had her sister previously. I think back to those days now...a lot of worry about nothing as it turned out, and I count my blessings that I have two fabulous son in laws....and finally, peace of mind

Serk my friend, you definitely have a problem but thankfully, she's got a good head on her shoulders. She'll do fine. Her parents have done a great job. You on the other hand will always be the "worried" dad. Rams

Having raised 4 daughters I know what you're talking about but not to worry. They won't admit it openly but your influence(mom & dad) is usually what guides them. My 60 yr. old gal has been alone for a few years now and had pretty much figured that was how it was going to be from now on. Suddenly, a few months back she met a guy by accident and they kinda hit it off so started dating. She still calls to talk about him as she did when in HS and I hear the same voice of concern in some questions she asks. All these years later, now a grandmother numerous times, that background laid while growing up still comes through. What's really amusing is when visiting one of the girls, I hear a repeat of something I said in years past such as...."don't make me point out the obvious" used in reference to picking up their room, putting their stuff away, etc.

Sort of reminds me of this song by Rodney Atkins. When my eldest daughter had her first real date (boy came by the house to take her out), I sort of copied this song. But that was long before the song was out there (maybe early 1990's) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nIJxveOgmc

Serk, I had three pretty good looking daughters (took after their Mom). I was considered a bit scary in those days as I was 6'4" and 240 lbs. of fairly heavy muscle. (DW wouldn't let me hand out candy at Halloween scary). I also taught martial arts classes and girls earned several belts. Thankfully between their Mom influence and me being what I was, all three turn out OK. Sound like your daughter has a pretty good head on her shoulders. So just enjoy her while she is home. And cleaning a gun when young lad comes to call on her wouldn't hurt either.

In the end you have absolutely no control over what your daughter's do and do not do. Best thing you have going is a good relationship with your daughter and setting yourself as a good role model of what a husband and father should be. Kids don't really listen to you, but they sure as hell watch you. Once that bird is out of the cage and flying on its own that's all it has, memories and experience brought by you, her father.
You did a good job raising her and she will ultimately choose well in your image my friend.

And for the record, yeah, I know, I'm not TOO worried; she's been raised as best as I can be, pretty sure she'll mostly make the right decisions, but there's always that little worry..... Mostly a humble brag, but it struck me how my little girl, many off ya'll have watched her grow up (I mean, she was conceived thanks to a post on this very forum!) has grown into a young lady..... Happened too cursed fast! Maybe in addition to the video of Kali shooting the Beowulf potential suitors can see this one too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPJlNHhPzr8Truth be told, she's got a serious boyfriend now and I mostly like him. He's asked to come to the land and be taught how to shoot, so even though he wasn't raised around guns, he's wanting to learn..... And thus far he treats her right.

One shotgun is all that's needed. Clean it every time a date comes to pick her up. No honking in the driveway. He must come to the door and be invited in to wait.
I had for beautiful teenage daughters. The youngest told me, "My boyfriends are always afraid of you." I replied, "They need to be." The man she married she met after she left home. I didn't meet him until they were engaged.
My brother used to preach at the state lockup down the road. When meeting his grandgirl's dates he would tell them, "I've been to prison and I'm not afraid to go back."

Heh, even better, at least so far..... She has something her current boyfriend does not: A driver license. Odd how many kids these days aren't in a big rush to get their license anymore...

1st Wife and Daughter was my oldest. Still in Texas at that time. Daughter came home Fri after school and asked could she go out Sat with a boy on a M/C. Hmmm. Provided he comes here first and I look over his scooter. What time Dad? 10 A M? O K. When he showed up I was doing something to my Virago and told him back it in over in the open spot and I was sitting on a milk crate. Also at this time my hair was shoulder length along with a full bushy beard. Michelle came out in the garage and said Daddy this is-I cain't recall the name. I'll be there when I finish with my M/C. Stood up off the crate and his nose was about as high as my sternum. Looked over his bike and cranked it up and went for a short ride came back had him air up the rear tire. Looked him dead in the eyes and said real low-You mess with my Daughter you WILL regret it the rest of your life and I'd have NO Problem going back to prison over my Daughter. Had all I could do not to laugh as the color drained outa his face. Daughter and him got back 20 minutes early said it was sorta O K-burgers and sodas. Then she looked at me and sez-Daddy you've never been in prison. You know it I know it-don't tell him! She never told him but in less than 2 weeks she dropped him. Serk-Daddies and Daughters-It's an ingrained protection thingy cuz we remember How we were! RIDE SAFE.

I have to send that to my son-in-law. Their youngest is a beautiful and tall nearly 14 yr. old, dark eyes and hair, in 8th grade and I know what I was like back then. I tease her once in a while about who's the best looking guy in her classes, then sit back and watch her turn a bit pink as the color rises in her face like a thermometer. She's not into guys much yet but beginning to notice. Had to laugh at my daughter one day when Payton(14 yr old) was being really grumpy and Toni knew why but wasn't going to put up with the general attitude. I heard her talking to her in the stairway, telling Payton if she's going to be bitchy she needs to leave it at the bedroom door cuz nobody is going to "outbitch" me in my own home. I about fell off my chair...shade of her mother, my ex.

Can we assume you have shared this with your spawn??? Oh she definitely knows! Funny side story - I'd never met Lamont in person until he made it to a HotGlue's BBQ when Kali was 4 or 5 years old..... I carried her up to him and said something to the effect of "There you are! She' was conceived because of YOU!" ...the color drained from his face..... "IT WASN'T ME!!!!!!!!!" ...then I explained what I was talking about, but for a moment there.....

Serk,
Time marches on, taxes go up, and life continues to evolve... Our coping mechanisms likewise must evolve right along with those inevitable changes... I know the realities of current citizenship require realistic and different planning, so it is not surprising that 'daddies' must now think of daughter protection in terms of rate of fire and knock-down power...
Older daddies like yours truly, however, had the luxury of needing only a 'Louisville Slugger' to meet then current threats... Ah, the good old days... Wonder how it might be for our grandsons when they become daddies...? Good luck to ya! Kali will surely attract much attention!
