I can only imagine the pride associated with receiving that medal. It seems most say that they were just doing their job and don't desire the recognition.
I was proud of my Grandfather's CIB, two bronze stars and two purple hearts from WWII. Should've been three purple hearts. The first time he got hit the medic bandaged up his shoulder and he stayed on the line. No paperwork. Served as a private in the 80th Infantry Division.
