I'm currently fixing a couple of PO wiring jobs on my '97, and I just need a quick confirmation on the correct way to wire in the plug for the starter solenoid.  It's obvious this needed to be replaced at some point, and whatever has been done seems to work, but my question is about the Green/Red wire.

Specifically, the wiring diagram only shows one wire actually coming off the harness going into the plug, but my wiring harness has two.  The PO simply pigtailed them together and crimped them onto the replacement plug.  Is this how the stock bike is wired, or should I be concerned that this is a bodge-job and will kick me in the butt later?

Thanks!

Connect them both up, as sloppy as it looks the PO did good. Both terminals of the relay supply power and if you use both terminals you cut the current in half running through any one connector. It helps prevent the connector from overheating and burning up again. Look at the wiring diagram again, even though only one terminal has a wire connected, it does indicate that both terminals on the relay supply power,, that is your 30 amp main power supply,, using both terminals makes a weak link (spade connector) more robust.

Just to clarify,,, I'm talking about the two red wires, side by side with one disconnected in your picture.

if the wires are Green/Orange, than there's are two wires that join up per schematic (bottom pic). Also, G/O is Interstate starter relay wires while the Standard/Tourer are a single Green/Red wire in the harness.

Thanks for the info.  I've got everything soldered up and it seems to be working correctly.  In the meantime I've got the service manual downloaded, and a hardcopy of the Clymer's manual in the mail (because I like physical copies of these things).
