I find the stock seat to be very uncomfortable in less then an hour of riding. I am over 60 and have  no ass, but I can ride my Superglide for hours. Has anyone drilled the bottom of their stock seat in a pattern to relieve the stiffness of the foam in certain areas? The holes would be 1/2" to 3/4" deep. Any thoughts?

The stock seat is not all that strong to begin with its plastic and not fiberglass. Any holes that would make a difference on stiffness would probably make the seat unusable. I have tried to modify the stock seat and so has a friend of mine and we both came up empty and bought Corbins. Its not only the stiffness of the seat but the shape of the seat and that really cannot be changed successfully.

I was really laughing because i said the 2 things you need on these bikes is hard bags and a good seat. Well after many attempts he bought the bags and is looking for a seat. Took him awhile of riding them to give in but he finally did. We would get off the bike from a ride and he looked a bit distressed and I asked him, back bothering you? He would mumble something and we would change the subject quickly.  Grin

The stock seat uses a rubber foam and I'm not sure how much give you might get from drilling holes in it.  But as previously stated, the discomfort is also due to the angle of the seat, canted forward like it is.  For me,  it was angled  enough that I had a pretty good amount of weight/pressure at my wrists and elbows, and like you, I also found the bike pretty uncomfortable, pretty quickly.  I had the seat redone, and that helped some, but it didn't fix the bars.

You need support under your thighs to keep the weight off your tail bone, and more evenly distributed on your posterior. Russell Day Long has this formula down to a science, but they are expensive. You could also give Seth Laam a look. He doesn't put suspensions in his seats like Russell, but the shapes of his seats look to me like he understands comfort and support.  Good luck with it!

I had never heard of this guy.

Seems like Spencer in Florida is no longer in business.

I had my stock seat reworked by Seth:

I left the passenger seat as stock and it goes well with the chevron pattern used on the rider seat.  There is a series of pictures of his work on a 1800 Valkyrie on his site.

Heyyyyyy, that's cool!  I didn't know any Valks had pulled the trigger on a Laam seat before I wrote the above response. I was considering one of his before I sold the Valk.

The one on his site looks comfy.  Any complaints on yours?  What are your thoughts on it?

I forgot to mention that I like the Lamm seat a lot - much better than stock and I would do it again.

Are you talking about drilling just the foam and not the pan?
