I don't know what I was thinking," said Monday, who had spent six years in the Marine Corp reserve. "But I knew what they were doing was wrong."

The pair was attempting to set fire to an American flag after dousing it with lighter fluid. But the matches kept blowing out in the breeze, giving Monday a chance to sprint and snatch the cloth. Monday handed the flag to Dodger pitcher Doug Rau, who was not in the game.

"If you're going to burn the flag, don't do it around me," Monday said after the game, won by the Dodgers 5–4 in 10 innings. "I've been to too many veterans' hospitals and seen too many broken bodies of guys who tried to protect it."

Great play Monday.

And Vin Scully, "I think a guy was going to set fire to an American flag; can you imagine that?"

Sadly, in today's world we can Vin.

Who would have thought it would progress (maybe that's why they call themselves progressives) from flag burning to destroying monuments and setting fire to police cars and stations. It makes flag burning seem kinda tame.

Agree to Disagree. I M H O Nothing WORSE than torching The AMERICAN Flag for "showboating" or a "political statement"! Or just cuz ya wanna Burn It. Every port of call on The U S S Yorktown CVS-10 no matter What Country we visited the entire time of the port call Old Glory flew from the stern. Every aircraft in the 4 squadrons had Old Glory prominently displayed somewhere or 2 somewhere's on each airdraft. My flight suit and my helmet had American Flag stickers and patches. Every one of 3 or 4 riding jackets and my cut have at least One American Flag displayed on them along with one on Phatt Ghurl mounted higher and dead center Over the P O W/M I A Flag and The U S Navy Flag. I've been to countless Military and First Responder funerals and the One thing they All have in common-Their Casket or Their Urn Are covered by an AMERICAN Flag which gets presented to The Family with Honors and in the case of Former Military-after The Rifle Salute and after TAPS is sounded. Again-I M H O burning Of Our COUNTRIES FLAG will Never be tame to me. RIDE SAFE.

Hey I think someone has the right to burn the flag. But they have to climb the pole to burn it and I should have the right to cut said pole down while his ASS is up there. Just my perspective.

My Brother-daprez-has expounded to me on That very thing. Soak the would be torcher in a flammable liquid soak an American Flag in the same flammable liquid and wrap that flag around themselves and now the flag burner is free to light it off anytime. RIDE SAFE.
