Hi All... I have my carbs apart to clean and check over and I notice that one of the inlet screens inside one carb is loose... anyone else had this issue.. If so what did you do?

Hey twisted,,,,  I figure there is one of three things going on here. Either you posted this question to the wrong forum, or you are calling some part by the wrong name, or you are doing too any drugs before getting online.

Please clarify....      over

Twisted, I know what screens you are referring to. I have rebuilt 7 sets of Valk carbs. So I have seen the screens in 42 carbs. I haven't seen one get loose as yet. I have found "rocks" on some of them. I presume that is from the petcock filter failing and letting the junk that is in our gasoline through. I have no idea how you might secure the screen back in place. IF IT WERE MY CARB, I would probably make sure my petcock screen was good and put the carb back together. If I were rebuilding it for someone else, I would have a conversation with them about what they wanted to do. Here is a pic for those who think you don't know what you are talking about.

Good information,, glad that is cleared up.

That was certainly one of those    open mouth-insert foot   type of comments.

Thanks guys... yup I just put it back together and its been running fine since... What i thought was a carb issue turned out to be a head gasget leak... I had the head checked and it was warped .05.. book said that was in limits.. but I had an extra head so new gasget and spare head and all is good... Head scratcher just the same..

Glad to hear you got it figured out twisted, can't help but wonder what were the symptoms of the problem you were chasing?

Yes please, what were you seeing? As soon as I get a head gasket on Friday I am going to swap heads with another motor I have as I am chasing left side not firing.  All timing and compression are ok and even swapped carb set and the same issue.  Also triple checked coils and plug wires.

So I would be interested in hearing what you were experiencing causing you to think it was a carburation issue.  Did you do a compression test before swapping the heads?
