I know some here have a HD in the garage and might have the answer.
My nephew stored his Fat Boy in my garage over the winter.  I don't know what year it is but has the key FOB where he has to be close to the bike for it to start.  He came over a few days ago to pick it up, the battery was dead. He took it out and I charged it for him.  Put it back in last night and everything works except the starter.  The turn signals keep blinking.
Whats going on?  Any ideas?

At least they didn't used to have kickstand and neutral safeties on them like metrics, so I think those switches are out as a problem.

I wonder if the key FOB is the problem.  After the battery died, it lost connectivity to the bike? Or the FOB battery is kaput?

I googled that and got quite a bit of hits, and Utubes. (but didn't read any)

This was a blog on it:  https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/1168327-security-fob-not-working.html

Here was my search page:  https://www.google.com/search?q=problems+with+harley+davidson+fob+key&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-1

Yes...it was the key FOB battery. Wink  Now he needs a new battery as the charge didn't hold.
Thanks for the reply.

Glad to help.  It was just an educated guess Steve.

As technology takes over all our vehicles and everything else, when things screw up, technology is my first usual suspect.

If you disconnect the battery from an anti-theft-equipped H-D you have to go through an interesting and somewhat involved ECU initialization process to get everything talking again and allow the bike to start. My buddy's '02 RK Classic was one such example I've dealt with.

My Concours 14s will indicate a low transponder (Fob) battery condition on their heads-up displays. I wonder if H-D does something similar with a light-flash pattern.

One thing I noticed were the turn signals kept blinking back and forth in a definite pattern.
All's well now.  He came by and took it home. Wink
I couldn't believe how fast it started after sitting since Nov.  It fired up before completing one revolution. Shocked
