Finally...after the alternator fiasco. Everything worked fine including the cruise control. Only thing that really bothers me is the tremendous amount of wind coming in over the front of the tank, hits me right in the face. At near 70 mph it was really blasting me almost like it was accelerating over the tank. Has anybody ever come up with something to reduce the wind from that area? I do have the air deflectors on the bottom of the fairing but that doesn't really do all that much it seems.

Sure felt good to get out and about though. I filled the tank and burned about 1/4 of it, some slow riding and some rather spirited. cooldude

I could be wrong, but I thought those memphis shades clear front fork mounted deflectors stopped a lot of the airflow coming from OVER the tank?    I do not mind the airflow (even sometimes whistling) coming from the air coming over the tank since the airflow hits me in the upper chest not the head/helmet area and does not bother me much at all.   On HOT summer days,  airflow like that I like.

I drove a goldwing with all the tupperware in front and thought it deflected way too much airflow would be good in COLD weather but HOT summer days way too hot for me.

Cookie, I'm referring to the deflectors that mount on the bottom of the fairing, believe they were a Honda option back when. They help, but don't cut down on the air coming in between the inner end of them and the forks.

Its good to hear you had a nice ride on the trike.  On the Goldwing they make what are called "tunnel fillers" , a soft foam that fits the forks around the triple treee area. This blocks wind from coming up thru the head/tree area. The Wing has a fixed fairing, is the Valk the same? Perhaps something like that is available for you.

John, you should change your sig pic to the trike from your longstanding bike pic (so we can see it).

You do have the regular Interstate fairing now, right?

Both mine have the standard fairing wings and the fork wings and I don't have excessive air.  I do have the 5" wider Clearview shields on them (one the std 15.5" high, and the other 14.5").

I wonder if the tree rake kit for the trike could be the contributor?

I only wear half helmets, but on the occasion I do get too much wind, I drop my little helmet half visor.

John,

Fork deflectors will stop that wind, they mount one on each side of the forks, they come with a bracket that mounts on the triple tree.

Jess...yes, it's the fork mounted fairing of the I/S, same as yours but does have the 6 degree rake kit. I have no idea if that adds to or creates the problem.

Don, the entire triple tree setup is different with the rake kit on this thing, forks are the same however. I'll have to see if the bolts are there to mount the deflectors you're referring to, I recall they did attach underneath the bottom tree. I have a set of fork mounted deflectors I made some years ago and were mounted on the old bike with the HD fairing. I found they don't fit on the trike as originally designed so might have to "re-injuneer" them a bit. Warmer weather predicted the next week or so meaning I'll be making some test rides with it.

As for changing the picture on my posts, I kinda wanted to wait until I had the passenger seat and backrest leatherwork in place before making the change. If I find a good spot for a trike pic maybe it will cause a change of mind.  Wink

I've found a way.  Remove the windscreen.  With no screen there's no tunnel.   Smiley

Carl, it's an I/S conversion, a bit difficult to do as suggested. Plus, my tender countenance wouldn't fare well in the wind these days. One method I use to cut down on facial wrinkles is stay fat, it keeps them filled in. I feel with the extra wind blasting at my face would make it difficult to stay ahead of the game.  Wink

A good point, John.  I had forgotten that it's an Istate.  My Istate has an eight inch screen.  I don't notice the wind over the tank but then I'm not aware of a lot of reality.

John, it is accelerating.  As a pilot you know that air forced over a longer path increases in speed.   Smiley

Great minds wander(oft times aimlessly) in the same circles. That's exactly the first thought that came to mind as I was riding down a nearby road a couple weeks ago. Here's a thought....that action creates the low pressure above the wing, thereby creating lift. Now, if I go fast enough so you suppose it will cause less wear on the front tire due to lift created.  Roll Eyes  Wink

I'll come up with something to reduce the air movement, would really come in handy if caught in the rain.

Interstate Air Wings are different than Tourer Air Wings, but I
fold out my Air Wings in the rain...

LOL!  Maybe more importantly if you reduce or stop the flow the lift will diminish and your front tire will wear more rapidly.   Shocked

I know, these are I/S air wings I had on the old bike but can't use them on the trike since that fairing has the optional deflectors mounted underneath.

I think you just need the fork deflectors. Those along with the fairing deflectors do me well.

I think I have a source for some deflectors that bolt on under the bottom tree, should know in a day or two.

Spendy from New Zealand.   (but kind of huge)

https://www.bigbikethings.com/Air_Deflector/p4325477_16655907.aspx

Even more spendy from Pinwall Cycle.  (but a call with a bit lower offer might get accepted)
https://pinwallcycle.com/advanced_search_result.php?__Secure-osCsid=7aa42212b195bc269880a69f5b9f2a42&keywords=Valkyrie+fork+wind+deflectors

With the complete bracket, you can find some plexiglass or whatever and cut your own wings for it.  My PO on one of my bikes made his own, and you can clearly tell they were done by some guy with a jigsaw (and not by some company).  But they work fine.
