The choke will not stay closed on my 97 project bike. I have to keep it pulled back the entire time that the bike is warming up when I let go it goes to half choke. Is there any adjustments on the carbs or controls?

Hey raker, there is a cable adjustment under the left linkage cover,

but it is unlikely to be the problem, more likely the cable is routed incorrectly and pulling on the enrichner rails. There is also a spring to keep the rails and enrichners in the closed position, one on each side.

The spring on the top... also there are nylon washers and pieces in the assembly that must be present to allow the rails to move easily.

Also, your rails may be gunked up and not wanting to rest in the closed position, take a look and clean them up if needed.

I have to hold both of mine for full choke. The tourer will stay on for about 5 seconds then go to about half. I think the return springs are to much. There is a choke mod John has done on his, I want to look up and do to mine. It puts the lever on the carb bank then no more on the bars. I only need to use mine in the winter here in Florida anyway.

My choke always worked great and stayed on until I lubed the cable.
That was about 10 years ago or more...

Here's a picture of the choke mod that Jim99 referred to, it has worked flawlessly for many years. Keep in mind, leaving the choke on for an extended period unnecessarily can create its own problems...bluing header pipes for one. Even here in the Green Bay area in winter I don't need to have it on more than a minute...if that long. I often start the bike(s) during cold weather rather than let them sit for extended periods. If the parking lot of my apartment complex is clear I'll even take a spin around the area 2-3 times but never leave the choke on. Just isn't needed.

Like I said it’s a project bike and had a stiff dry feeling choke and yes I did spray a little WD40 on the cable when I had the controls off. Guess I fixed one problem and created another. Thank for the advice
