Ethan, my 5 year old grandson has a kidney stone too large to deal with without surgery. He’s a tough little guy as this will be the third surgery since he was born. Much braver than I was at his age, I was terrified of the dentist!

What a rotten deal.

They fixed my hernia at 4.  It went OK with only modest postoperative pain (esp. laughing), but overall I was not amused with the experience.

I did learn a few real bad words in the pediatric ward they stuck me in afterward, and I got my mouth washed out with soap after I came home (just the once) in rehabilitation.  It worked, I never used those words where my parents could hear them again.

Make sure they send that stone to pathology for analysis, so they might recommend diet or supplement changes if possible (against repeats).  They're mostly calcium (80% are calcium oxalate), but there are other kinds too.

Ethan looks like a great kid, best of luck to him.

Kidney stones at 5 years old? I wonder what's going on there.

You are blessed with a beautiful grandson. I pray that this will be a good day for him, and he will just keep having more and more good days. God bless Ethan, you and your family.

It will be different for his twin brother as tonight will be the first night they have spent apart since they came home from the hospital the first time.

Thank you, and both of them have truly been a blessing.

Hope to find an answer to that too.

Ethan had a hernia surgery and an eye surgery, both before he was a year old but probably didn’t pick up any bad words at that age.

Out of surgery and in recovery in about 30 minutes. Doctors think they got it all and they expect that Ethan will be able to come home in the morning. We may have a visitor for a few days, as his twin and he love to play rough at times, and with a 10 month old for Momma to keep an eye on we think Elias would be better off here. Decision on that is still out there. To God be the glory!

I have had a dozen or so stones along with two lithotripsy procedures. I pray is going well post surgery. May the analysis reveal a cause that leads to remedy the situation from future events.

Daddy is spending the night with him. Woke up from the surgery with a catheter, and he wasn’t to happy about that! Some pain to deal with but still hoping to come home in the morning. Thanks again for all the well wishes.

Well another night in the hospital for Ethan. Some issues cropped up and they may have a few more procedures to do. He did get the catheter out and when asked afterward how he felt using a 1 to 10 scale with 10 being the best he ever felt, he replied 16. So his sense of humor is intact.

My wife has been with our granddaughter all afternoon so momma could go relieve dad for a while and she called at 8:00 pm to say she was on her way home. That 20 minute drive has turned into an hour and a half. I75 turned into a parking lot just a few miles before our exit. So the day of disappointment continues.
