After I made a replacement acrylic wing for my air wings I thought I probably could make something else for the old girl.  This is what I came up with.  I'm not great with graphics or fonts so it is what it is, but I like it much more than looking at the back of the back rest.   I only used translucent red because that's what I had already cut down to size but I'll probably cut one in translucent blue at some point to match the color of the bike better.

The letters are raster engraved on my little laser cutter.

Thanks,  Yea I was thinking about a maiden head or dragon.  When I get around to making a blue one it'll most likely be one or the other and dropping some of the text.

Took your advice with the maiden head.  Didn't have any translucent blue but did have some blue acrylic.  I think I like the design better but think I'd like it better on translucent.

Thanks, I've made quite a few edge lit and back lit signs and thought about doing the same on this but I don't really want to add wiring to it.  Over time I've come to appreciate simplicity. Smiley

I’m not sure of the legality of that either. (Unless it were red)

Red, back lit and hooked up to the brake lights, it'd be very cool.

I've been messing with my 3018 for the last 1 1/2 years, and still haven't made anything. I need to print outside only, no where in the house.

I've been trying to get the VRCC logo on a coaster, but it's a blended image, making it hard to do.

There is quite a learning curve if your self taught like me.   I started out with a 3020 that came with a pirated copy of Mach 3 control software.  Used it to make a 24" x 48" cnc router then used the 24" x 48" to make a 36" x 48" which is what I'm happy with.  I purchased Mach 3 and UCCNC to control it and both software have pro's and cons for controlling the cnc.  On the design software you just have to find one you like and learn it.  Some are free some very expensive and some you can subscribe monthly.

My laser machine is a 40W CO2 laser, it's what's known as a K40 with many upgrades one of which is the controller board which is a Cohesion 3d. This allows me to use a software called Lightburn which I can do the design and stream the gcode to the control board from one interface.  You can take an image and just engrave it if you have the ability to vary the power output, or you can trace the image to create vectors if you only want a line art type engraving.

Depending on the type of controller you have you may be able to use Lightburn and it's not very expensive.  I highly recommend it if you can.

Here's a link to the Lightburn forum with one of the members that does picture quality ceramic tile engravings (coasters) with his low wattage LED laser.   https://forum.lightburnsoftware.com/t/playing-with-ceramic-tile-norton-method-black-is-etched-in/11859/2

Was able to get some transparent blue and made a new cover this weekend.  I think it looks even better & matches the bike colors better.
