Hey can anyone out there help me out? I have a 1998 Valkyrie GL 1500C had the carbs rebuilt and cranks and runs great for about 3 miles then idle goes up to about 12-1400 RPM any ideas what is causing this issue?

I had the same issue after rebuilding my carbs, the idle screw turns itself while riding due to vibration sometimes up to 2000 idle rpm. I got a cheap mini long nose vice-grip at HF and clamped it on the screw head, no more wandering idle..
To date I've been too lazy to tear it apart and figure out what went wrong. I suspect the holding spring under the screw is missing or bad? I don't remember removing the idle screw when rebuilding the carbs.

No choke is good I have checked that and every time I crank it the idle is fine just when i ride about 3-5 miles. If it has a vacuum leak would that cause it after the engine gets hot?

The idle speed does rise as these monsters warm up. Have you adjusted the idle speed once the engine has warmed up ?  It might then seem a bit low when cold, but, it should still stay running fine. They warm up quick.

I have tried it all. some reason when it does this it seems to be running lean on 5 and 6 pipes they are brand new and starting to blue already.

I'm sure they are simply because the first guy that tried to rebuild my carbs had them all bent up going in had to buy new seals for the next mechanic.

Has the bike been desmogged ? Are the intake taps properly capped ?
