Author Topic: Loose hoses from air rails  (Read 1728 times)

On the standard Valkyrie carb, does anyone know what the air rail hoses are supposed to be connected to?  I have two 6" long hoses, each connected to a "T" junction on the air rail of the carbs, but both are hanging free on the other end.

The fuel rail makes sense... fuel from the tank feeds into the carb fuel rails.  But the air rail hoses seem to be unnecessary.  I've looked around the general area, and can't find anything for these hoses to hook to.  The Clymer manual doesn't seem to shed light on the subject.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks all.

Thanks for the comments.  Huh!  I hope air doesn't get sucked back into the engine through the air rails.  What would be the point of that big air cleaner if air entered the engine through the air rails?

Are these "vents" necessary, or can they be plugged?  Perhaps they're an artifact of some previous smog control system?

One is the vent from the top of the carbs and the other should be a drain line from the bowls.

If you are referring to the 2 carb vent hoses(one for each side, on top of the Carbs). NO you cannot stop them up. They are there as a vent to the carb. If they become stopped or clogged the bike will run very lean or not at all, usually not at all, since gas will not flow thru the carbs.

They function as a vent to the bowl and carb and are not used to supply air to the intake track. Route them so water cannot enter them, ever, and leave them open.

Pete:  Yes, those are the hoses to which I'm referring.  Thanks for you comments.  That was exactly what I needed to hear.
