After returning from a 9 day trip last night, I just want to give you all a little summary...

With a group of 5 riders total, #4Harleys1Honda, we left Langley on Sunday June 13.
We had a wet start, but the smiles in everyone's face were big and everyone was itching to leave the Lower Mainland.

We took Hwy 1 to Hope, then #3 to Princeton, where we stopped for lunch.

After lunch it was time to get rid of the rain gear and we kept following the #3 until Osoyoos.

Staying on the #3 until Rock Creek, where we sat up our camp for the night at "Rock Creek Riverside Campground".

At Rock Creek we had an amazing night. Lightning and thunder surrounded the valley and it went on for a couple of hours. We were lucky and only got rained on lightly and for a very short time. I never have experienced anything like this, it was spectacular.

The next morning, Monday, we packed up and took #33 to Kelowna. This time it started out differently than the day before: beautiful sunshine and then we got rained on hard on Kelowna's Westside Road.

Stop on the Westside Road before it got really wet...

We kept on going for 20mins in the rain until we decided it's a bit too much and found a spot to hide until this storm had passed.

The plan for Monday and Tuesday was to camp at Goldpanners Campground on #6 close to Cherryville.
Shortly after the storm we got a call from them, telling us they had no power and running water. We were a bit desperate for a hot shower after the rain and found a great deal for a hotel in Vernon.

It was sunny in Vernon all day Tuesday, but everywhere around us the weather apps said it's gonna be wet. So we decided to stay in Vernon, watched the soccer game (Germany vs France), and dried our gear out.

On Wednesday morning we left Vernon and followed #6 towards the Needles ferry and had 2 nights booked in Nakusp at Riders Retreat. What a great place! They rent out tents, a trailer and a bus. The tents are fully stocked and you don't have to bring anything. Great for riders on a sports bike who don't want to bring any camping gear.
We had the trailer and the bus booked and had a great time. Sitting around the fire with other riders, telling stories, good times were had.

Lunch at the Leland Hotel in Nakusp before we went to Riders Retreat

On Thursday morning my buddy and I didn't want to wait for the others to get ready, so we went ahead and visited a spot in Silverton we knew from last year and then head breakfast in New Denver. At the...

Photo stop in Silverton

The others met us there and then we took #31a towards Kaslo and stopped by a ghost town called Sandon. What a place, so much history. For more details just google it...

After visiting Sandon and learning about the history and the powerhouse, we got back to #31a, which is in the TOP 5 of Canada's roads, and kept going to Kaslo.

Relaxed lunch break in Kaslo with great parking.

And then came the best part... we had to go back #31a to get back to Riders Retreat  cooldude

Another great night around the campfire...

Friday morning we got ready and then took the #6 to New Denver and then the #31a, again  Grin to Kaslo, then #31 down to Balfour. Shortly before Balfour there is a campground called Toad Rock where we stayed for 2 nights.
What an amazing place!

We set up camp in a quiet area under the trees and started the fire to prepare dinner.

On Saturday morning 3 of us left for a nice loop.
We took the ferry from Balfour to Crawford Bay, the #3a to Creston for lunch.
I stopped at this place last year and thought it was good, apparently I played it down. My friends said it was the best Fish'n Chips they ever had!

1 piece Halibut with fries

2 pieces Cod with fries

From Creston we continued West on #3 and stopped at Kootenay Pass.

Then we took the #6 up North to Salmo and Nelson. In Nelson we stopped at the brewery to get enough hydration for another fun evening on the campground.

On Sunday morning we took the #3a down to Castlegar, then the #3 to Osoyoos and then up the #97 to Penticton where we stayed one last night at a hotel.

On the way to Penticton at Christina Lake

Viewpoint at Osoyoos

After a great night at the hotel it was time to pack up and start the ride home

From Penticton we took the Green Mountain Road, which then put us back to #3a to Keremeos. What a beautiful, twisty road!

Stop at Ford Lake

From Keremeos we took the #3 West and after Hedley we turned off and followed the Old Hedley Road to Princeton. We had to stop along the river and cool off, it was 33 degrees celsius / 92 fahrenheit.

After lunch in Princeton we followed the #3 to Hope and then #1 to Surrey.

And that's how fast 9 days can pass...

Great memories were made and we had an amazing time! We met the nicest and most interesting people!

I guess it's time to plan the next ride!  coolsmiley

All in all we rode close to 2300km. Not the biggest of a ride, but a great vacation that will probably be repeated every year now.

Very nice! It's been 2 whole years since I've had some distance on a MC. That looks like some nice roads on those routes.

Then the old Valhalla Inn, that's where we used to hold the annual Rally, then drive the Nelson/Kaslo roads and Balfour for lunch.

Thank you VCV for such an outstanding ride report and pics.   cooldude

I think a small group like that is the best of all worlds on a riding trip.

Great ride Christian, and great report. Hwy 6 is a top 3 motorcycle road in Canada, when you take the road itself and scenery into consideration. The Kootenays is the best region in BC (in Canada, in my mind). I'm a little biased, as that is my home region (grew up on the shore of Kootenay Lake). Lisa and I ride through there pretty much every year... all those places are regular stops for us... and Yes, everyone should visit Sandon once! As Gord said... the Valhalla Inn in New Denver was the site of our first few annual Valhalla gatherings a dozen or more years ago. That's where the rally name originated... and  our group became known as the "Valhalla Riders"  Smiley Look forward to seeing you Saturday and hearing more about your ride.

ps... Germany should've won that game as they carried a lot of the play. I think we're on track now though, in terms of finishing our chances and hopefully advancing tomorrow.  cooldude

Great ride report....thanks for sharing it with us. We spent most of July last year in that region and your trip report brought back good memories of amazing roads with spectacular scenery.
Looking forward to meeting you on Saturday.

Thanks for that! Wife and I are riding a very similar route in a couple weeks, provided your province opens up to inter provincial travel.

And yeah, can’t wait to do 31a again. I’ve done it a few times but the better half hasn’t experienced it on 2 wheels yet.

Great pics. Looks like you guys had a great time.

Thanks everyone! I was hesitant to write a summary at first, thought it might just be too boring.
Will definitely write a little summary every time now to relive the trip again, for you as well as me.

Besides the first 2 days with some rain the weather was perfect and a group of 5 is a great size to ride together.

Can't wait for the next one...  cooldude

Christian, I second Meathead.
This is what this board is supposed to be about, riding and sharing the adventure. Not all the political BS that is posted.
Thanks again for taking us along on the ride, and keep them coming, enjoyed every word and every picture.

In case anybody is interested in some videos of the 31a between Kaslo and New Denver...

These are a couple of minutes on the road with my friends riding in front of me:

The next one is me after thinking to myself "I don't come here that often, time for some fun!"

That one of you is nice riding.   cooldude    And really nice scenery.

When the trees get right next to the road, I often start thinking about big animals wandering out in front of me.  I've come up on deer, black bear, and one gynormous Black Angus bull just standing in the middle of the road looking at us.

This thing was the biggest land mammal I ever saw in my life outside a zoo, by far.

Be like hitting a bridge abutment.  And then he'd want payback.

Great videos. What kind of mount are you using that can move around like that? Very cool.

Thanks!

Yep, I hear you on the animal part. It was very hot that day and early afternoon, so I wasn't too concerned about wildlife. On the other hand, there is a nice cold river rushing on one side of the road and you can never know when something suddenly jumps out of the bush. "Always be prepared but don't overthink it" is what I have to tell myself often. If I overthink it, it takes away the fun and enjoyment.

I definitely wouldn't want to see that bull in front of me on the road, that thing is massive!

I am using an "Insta 360 One R" camera.
It's a 360 camera that is basically recording everything around all the time.
When coming home I have to sit down and go through the whole video and set my "keyframes", my field of view. I am basically directing my own movie. I don't have to worry about anything while recording, besides where I want to mount the camera, but it can be a bit of work editing it all.

Hope that helps...

Nice videos Christian  cooldude That is a great road, when traffic is light. I can't count how many times I've ridden it over the years. Before it got popularized in MC publications, traffic was almost non-existent, but it also wasn't maintained as nicely as it is now. We used to run it 3 times on some trips...whichever direction we were going, we'd run it, turn around and head back to either Kaslo or New Denver, then go back again and continue on our way... just because. Now, we usually stop along the way and do some fishing with my little fly rod I pack along... decent fishing in Kaslo Creek that runs along the road  halfway from Kaslo, and also in the little lake at the rest stop cooldude
Last time we were on there two years ago we saw 3 MC crash sites and one tuner car crash going Kaslo to New Denver. Two were earlier and had been taped off, the other two, the victims were still on the scene. Lots of people like to challenge it. Looks like you had little traffic and reasonably clear sailing. To a novice on that road , some of those blind corners (or deer) come up pretty quick when you get into a good speed groove.
I'd like to take more video... I just don't think I'd like all the editing. I'm lucky to have Lisa along on a lot of my rides... most of our photo and video clip memories are from her very capable hands and eyes Smiley

I hear you on riding it several times in a day, that's what we did as well. It's just too good to ride it in one direction only and then keep going.

I like to go a little faster, but nothing crazy. We saw some flowers besides the road from an accident from last year. The rider apparently lost control and crashed into the raging river, his body was never found. Having fun on the bike and coming home to my loved ones is the goal on every ride.

I still need a lot more experience with the camera. For a group ride, when I am leading, the mounting position on the handlebar was basically useless. For rides on the Sea to Sky with 2 lanes and riders passing me, and me passing them, it is great. The editing isn't too bad, can all be done on the phone app. What I really love about the 360 footage is that with the same recording, you can basically make an endless amount of different movies with different views. I'm slowly getting the hang of it...
