I’ve taken to watching reruns of “Match Game”. It’s a nice, pleasant divergence from the “stuff” of today’s problems. What I’ve noticed along with the change in clothing styles is how much more “real” things used to be. There are contestants of all “regular” walks of life and looks. I don’t think hardly any of them would get picked to be on a game show today. I’d also forgotten prevalent smoking was “back in the day”. Also I wonder if the hugging, kissing, risqué questions would be allowed today ? Probably not.

Anyways, I enjoy the diversion.  Smiley

I've been watching some old westerns such as Gunsmoke, The Virginian, The Big Valley, etc. Miss Kitty in Gunsmoke was a pretty lady indeed, as was the Barkly matriarch in her day. Curious...I went looking to see how many various cast member were still alive...most are dead and gone. One thing I found a bit amusing was the eye makeup, seems nearly all the females had false eyelashes. In many cases the acting  left a lot to be desired, almost like they were reading the script during the shot. Oh well, it kills time on slow days.

We have recently taken up some episodes of "Adam-12" on ME TV channel which was filmed in the early 70's.  It's like a time machine view of Los Angeles just as I was relocating there from New England.  There are many location shots on streets and boulevards which show the automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, and neighborhoods.  Checking out advertised prices of gasoline, groceries, meat, and commodities is pretty remarkable.  The dialogue is sometimes humorous, usually corny (a Jack Webb production) and the descriptions of people's races, fashions, and genders just would not fly in 2021.
"Can I use your telephone?  I'll call an ambulance."

My buddy's son-in-law is an LA patrolman; I've encouraged he and his buddies to have a few cold ones and check it out.  I'm sure that they'd be roaring by the fifth minute when they hear "One Adam-12, a 211 in progress at the bank on the corner of 11144 Melrose, shots fired, handle Code 3"; Reed and Malloy are the only ones who show up in their 1970 Plymouth with a shotgun, a couple of lights on top and a siren.  These days there'd be 20 locked-loaded cops, SWAT, a helicopter, and an armored vehicle. police

I love Adam 12, and Dragnet.   cooldude

Shows from an earlier era of sanity and reasonableness.

The shocker in those shows is LA with hardly any bad traffic and clear streets everywhere.

match game was a funny game show to watch, but my favorite was Bob Eubanks  THE NEWLYWED GAME  and also Hollywood Squares.    You never knew what the famous people were going to say from day to day.

All In The Family with Archie Bunker and Edith I like to watch to this day even makes me chuckle how much racism, etc. got aired back then which would not be allowed in today's world NO WAY.

And yes,  smoking was prevalent back in the 60s and 70s just glad I did not start up in the 80's and missed that earlier generation for 3 out of 10 aunts/uncles have now passed due to smoking for the most part and probably 2 more to go within the next few years.  My dad smoked up into his 40's and  did not help into his 70's breathing problems, etc.    then again some who smoke have no breathing issues whatsoever but something like cancer can come on all of a sudden.

THE NEWLYWED GAME

Had the biggest (or funniest) blooper in TV history.

Bob's question for the wives was... Where is the wildest place you ever made whoopee?  One wife thinks about it for a while then says.... in my butt.    Speechless.  Grin
