Just a nitpick, and a trick I had a teacher teach me long ago:
When referring to the capital city, it's capital.
When referring to the capitol building, it's capitol.
Think of the big rotunda in the capitol, and picture it as the 'o' in capitol.
(Although this post it could be argued capital is the proper usage, just something that gets me and that little trick I like to share.)

Oh, man. Will Rogers. Great blast from the past. Some classic American wit and wisdom there!
I also enjoy Senator John Kennedy of LA's way with words. He's able to explain DC in a way few can. He may come across as a bumpkin, but he one of the smartest in the lot and we need more like him.
There are so many Kennedy gems. Here are some of my favorites.
