No Complaints… After re-reading my recent posts… well, I concluded there is ample evidence that I’ve been bitchin’ a bunch lately. That ain’t like me normally, so I thought perhaps I should do a mea culpa and offer an apology. I am sorry for the apparent disproportionately negative tone, but… Heck! I meant every word of it! While I do hope I’m not becoming a curmudgeon, I admit I have sounded more than a few sour notes here and there. It ain’t entirely my fault, however, but I will be making an honest attempt to find greater balance… if I can… The problem here is the weather is making it rather difficult! Rain and/or heat mostly, and both seem to have been in greater abundance this time out than ever before. Is it possible AOC is actually correct? Or maybe it’s mostly just that my own perception is evolving due to my… you know… steady transition to full-blown senior status. There have been a few bright spots, however, and those should also be noted… We departed the motel in Mississippi not so long ago… early of course, as I’d anticipated the predicted ‘hot temps to come’ would likely be an accurate forecast. What wasn’t anticipated was the cloud cover that developed! Yep, just after arrival at the fuel/potty stop in Tuscaloosa, AL, I first noticed the sky had begun to turn darker. While stopped anyway, I did a smart phone app recheck of the forecast I’d been studying to see if just maybe I’d missed something. Nope, it definitely wasn’t supposed to rain, so… we continued on. I kept a watchful eyeball on the southwestern sky anyway, of course… No out-n-out worry, just serious vigilance… As is typical these days, we cruised at a steady pace not straying beyond the ‘good citizen’ range of regulated speed rates. While I did notice several LEOs out on the prowl looking for scofflaws, no threat to us ever seemed imminent… consequently no donuts were wasted on our account either. Nope, just a peaceful, harmonious cruise without ever breaking a sweat… and that’s a good thing… By the time we’d crossed the Autauga County line approaching Prattville just northwest of Montgomery, we’d still felt not a single drop of precip… indeed, the sky had actually grown no darker either. Well heck, that certainly called for celebration, so I pulled onto the parking lot of Jim’s BBQ for some much-needed brunch… “A pork sandwich and glass of sweet tea, please…” If you had any doubt at all, the answer is “Oh YES! It was exceptionally good!” Following a delightful respite/repast, I stood outside for a brief interlude of ‘glute-flexing,’ sky perusal, and a bit of reflection upon the day’s outing so far. That’s when it struck me… Those seemingly threatening clouds had actually kept the mercury in the ol’ glass tube from even approaching anywhere near the top! Yep, we’d been having one of our best days in quite a while, and that was surely worth noting! Due to our rather early departure that morning combined with a planned relatively short day to arrive at our doctor-doings destination, we not surprisingly arrived before the next ‘temporary home’ was ready. No sweat at all… I just sat in one of those comfortable, sumptuous chairs in the lobby and dozed for… whatever, until the nice lady behind the counter announced my room was now ready. I then proceeded to do all the usual settling-in stuff, after which I collapsed down onto the bed and took a proper nap… incredibly happy with the outcome of that day’s ride! Nope, no complaints at all… DDT
