Sometimes ya just gotta go...

An ICE Event…

No, nothing frozen going on… Heck, with all the carping I’ve done lately about heat, which was entirely accurate BTW, that sort of thing wouldn’t even be possible. No, I’m talking about a similar happening to the one Yuri (ICE) described in a reply to an earlier post of mine… I’ve put a name to my own events since in his honor…

Yuri told us about a time during which he’d lost much of the luster when it came to riding, but that he and Petra had just continued on anyway until… One fine day as they were riding along it just came over him, and the zest, that certain passion, came roaring back! When I’d read his account, I immediately knew of what he spoke, as I’d had the same sort of thing happen to me… before and since! The difference today is that now for this rider those special revivals have a name…

Yep, we were cruising along between El Dorado, AR, and Texarkana, TX/AR, and it hit me… suddenly and profoundly! Yep, that old sparkle had fully returned, and I was nearing orgasmic levels of delight, as it continued to dominate my thoughts! Hard to describe, but so easy to recognize. One minute we’re trying hard to feel sorry for ourselves, then from out of nowhere comes the realization life is near perfect for us!

Yes, wonderful weather including pleasant temperatures and light non-threatening traffic on backroads certainly had set the perfect backdrop for this sudden burst of euphoria, but there can be no doubt… A significant shift in thinking had occurred; a vastly different perspective on identical events and circumstances had caused my ‘interpretations’ of the exact same inputs to be viewed dramatically differently! That old saying, “As one’s thinking is, such one becomes…” was without a doubt borne out yet again! Are we happy or miserable? Yes, pick one! Yeah I know, life isn’t quite that simple, of course, but to an exceptionally large degree, our thinking itself does shape who and what we become…

What a difference all of that made, too! That nagging but still increasingly noticeable fanny-fatigue seemed to have cured itself! I was no longer dreading the hours in the saddle still ahead and the increasing heat sure to accompany those. Concern over where we might land for the evening no longer seemed nearly as important. It’ll all work itself out… it always does… Having our emotions in check certainly is ‘cool’… Icy even!

someone (more than one?) has told that every invention or thing created is created twice

One when you first imagine it and one when you build it

It had made me wonder if the same is true with the enjoyment of simply riding

I believe in my case that is true

Even more for you and Yuri and so many others who have felt they have lost or misplaced an enthusiasm
or simple joy of one of life's pleasures be it riding or something else   I lost it in Arkansas when I was behind a great rider who went down and I have no idea why I did not go down on the pig guts as well and later when I went down on oil on a twisty road near my home

You may not have been consciously looking for it back but your soul was always searching and it let you know  AHA !  we have it again

Those moments are pure joy   For me it could be just riding under the tree canopy of some road and I sense running water as the air feels...........different   Or cresting a hill and the view unfolds.....or anything or nothing as befits the occasion

Glad you are on the sunny side of the lawn enjoying those moments

To begin with, I never considered any of your posts being the least bit negative. They were a reflection of your life and incidents. Very few I know encounter Unicorns and rainbows every day.

As far as the heat goes, I haven’t had any significant rides since you were last this way. It’s just been too much. Riding across town just doesn’t cut it. I hope to alleviate that soon. Keep the stories coming, regardless of the tone.  cooldude
