Daymaker headlight and Josh's adapter - question
«
on:

Does the beauty ring go on the INSIDE of the adapter (against the headlight assembly) or does it go OVER the adapter?
I'm talking about the H-D trim piece that people are using to compensate for the gap between the headlight assembly and the Valkyrie's outer headlight mount.
Thanks!

This thread describes robbing the "beauty ring" from the OEM
headlight. The part where he describes mashing the ring over
the bracket shows what you need to do...

That was a good idea from mello dude. Moral is if you follow the forum on a regular basis, you'll pick up the tips and tricks and the hacks and the don't do's.

Where's the "Doh!" icon when you need it?
The original posting had me trying to use the trim ring from a Harley Daymaker mount. What started this project was the acquisition of a pair of HD OEM Daymaker spotlights at a swap meet...cheap. A carefully timed eBay purchase netted a matching OEM HD Daymaker headlight...cheap. I'd had Josh's adapter ring sitting around for a couple of years, waiting on the purchase of lights. These finds made it happen.
What I'd tried to do was to take the HD's trim ring and put it over the adapter ring. There's simply no way to make it fit, except with cutting. When I liberated the ring from a spare Valkyrie OEM light and pushed it into place, the fit was very snug - but I managed to get the thing in place and secured.
Spots are already installed on my Tourer. Next step is to install the Daymaker-equipped assembly and aim it.
I have the Harley mount and this winter I'm going to take a good look at machining some adapters to use it in conjunction with the existing Valkyrie bracket - if possible. Will be interesting to see if the member in the linked thread comes up with the same arrangement I do.

That's the ring I have, and there's no way mine would go on without modification with the light I'm using. I managed to get the stock Valkyrie ring on...
just barely
. It's a tight fit but isn't coming off easily.
