Author Topic: Need Opinions... Full Floorboards? Iso-Wings?  (Read 6786 times)

With the Blue and Gray Ride, Inzane 9, Ontario and a lot of other riding planned this year (I am in NE Ohio), I am looking to maximize comfort of my 99 I/S.

Full floorboards for both rider & passenger being considered, but it appears most add a kick shifter, so this makes for a large investment (upwards of $800).

I am also considering the Kuryakyn ISO-Wing Mini-Boards... less investment and it looks like I can use the stock shifter. Might add a Rattlebars peg relocation to an ISO-Wing Mini-Board setup...

Decisions, decisions.... any one using the ISO-Wings? How do you like them? Any opinions, of the floorboard setup, good/bad/indifferent would be appreciated. Thanks...

I have had the ISO Wings on three different bikes for a number of years and I have found them to be the most comfortable and easier to adjust to my short legs.  I have also eliminated the stock Honda gear shift for a longer Harley chrome type.  Makes for easier shifting also.  Just my $.02.

I found that for me the stock pegs putting pressure on my foot arch and tends to fatigue my legs. So I went to the cobra full floorboards, now my feet sit flat and I don't get fatigued. You can't put a price on comfort, also it depends on the individual persons comfort zone. I think flat is better the arch.

The Cobra swept floorboards work well on the Valk, and the combination of the floorboards and Ralltebar's kickshifter is worth the $$$ and time investment. Even if you don't want to get the kickshifter now, the gear lever can be repositioned to work with the floorboards. Just being able to slide your foot fore and aft a couple of inches every once in a while while underway makes a big difference...

I use the Cobra floorboards with rattlebars lowering kit.  Lowers the boards some.  I am just over 6', and it helps with legroom.  I had the heel/toe, but personally did not like, so removed it. Others love it. Personal preference, it is a good kit.  It looks like shaman has the lowering kit too, the extra triangle shaped metal piece the boards mount on.

I  bought Cobra floorboards for my bike right after I bought it ( 1998 ) within less than a year I had them worn off up into the rubber foot pads. If you like to ride hard the Cobra's are a waste of $$$ . I just use stock pegs now I think I'm on set 6 or 7 on  my Yellow/ Creame " HALF-BREED " now.

I have had the Iso Wings 3 or 4 years on my Valk, and now have Cobra floorboards. The Iso Wings are much better than the stock footpegs. However the floorboards have raised the comfort level. Floorboards are much more comfortable than anything else I have had on my Tourer.
Good luck!  Cool

I like mine. I have the Rattle bars peglowering kit full forward and also the Rattlebars Kickshift. The iso-wings are alot more comfortable than stock. I have 40K on this combo and many 700+ mile days.

...I have run ISO wings on both my pegs and passenger pegs for around 7yrs...I like them better because I found with full boards I was stepping out farther at stop's ...and they are just as comfortable...just my opinion everyone has their own thing....

if you're going to use floor boards on a valk it's a great idea to drill and tap the very bottom edge 6mm x 1.0.screw the original "feelers" from the factory pegs in.now you can drag um with the best of them and not tear up your boards

Well, little brother...

If you would come out to Chicagoland and help me put my bike back together like I suggested, you could try out a Valk with Iso-Wings. I love mine.

I had them on my ACE and now on the Valk and they offer a number of different positions for your foot (resting on arch, resting on balls of the feet, etc). When used in conjunction with touring pegs, you have quite a few places to adjust your legs and feet to ward off fatigue.

MC Enterprizes makes a floorboard/shifter combo, something else to check out. Personally I went with the kickshifter with lowering kit only adapted to shift the boards forward but not down. The boards I chose were custom chrome combined with cobra mounts but if I was going to do it again I'd just go with the cobra boards/kickshifter. Just my preference. Like was mentioned it's all about comfort and you don't want to do things twice laying out the $ we do for the extras, er' essentials!  cooldude

I really like the ISO Wings.  I installed at the same time the peg Relo kit from Rattlebars.  That has been 6 or 7 years ago.  I have 3 sets on my I/S.  Driver, passenger and highway.  You can't see the Relo plate in the picture because I took it off, just trying different things.   I am going to put the Wings on my Std. also.  You will like the Wings as much as the Peg drop kit.

ALL RIGHT SNOT! You think we just sit here, eating bon bons and watch TV all night... well, yeah, I do... but that's beside the point.

I have the utmost confidence in your abilities in the craftsmanship of you revised Valk  Wink

Plus.... I am still trying to get the gas smell out of my garage!!!! 2funny     (for anyone not in the know... HIS  ??? faulty petcock caused a SMALL leak in my garage... only about 4 gallons!)

Seriously, I am about to pull mine apart again... not to the degree that you have... but adding floorboards or iso-wings (no decision yet), new motosens gauges (black face) on the side of the motor (mounted on cable cover), Dan-Marc fuel shutoff, and highway pegs... maybe you should come here. PPPPFFFFFFFTTTTT!!!

Looks like Dreammaker and Shaman have the passenger floorboards installed.  Is that correct or does it just look a little differently than the Cobra website?

Do Harley dealership carry more accessories?  The local places don't carry alot of accessories... gotta head out of just saginaw i think...

Hey, Pete, I've been using floorboards with the peg relocation and kick-shifter ever since I got the bike. The problem I have with the pegs is with my tendency toward plantar fascietis (sp?), on very long rides the pressure on my arch starts to take its toll. However, I must say that even though I'm not an aggressive rider through the turns (as you've witnessed), I still have to be careful about scraping the boards. I had trouble with getting my foot around the shifter, which was solved with the kick-shifter. Hope it helps.

You don't have to be Joe to scrape your floorboards in every turn in the mountains... my buddy Dan
had Cobra floorboards on his bike when he got it... he scraped them in almost every turn following me.
