My sons GF inherited a '07 Honda Accord from her dad that spent it's life around Connecticut/NY. It has one tire that goes low in about 3 days. Her dad said it was the wheel, that it's a problem Hondas have. (???) I have never heard of such a thing. My son sent a picture of the wheel/tire and the alloy wheel is quite ugly due to corrosion. So then I got to thinking, maybe the sealing surface on the wheel is pitted enough to leak.
So here's the questions; Could this be a corrosion issue where the roads are salted during the snowing season? Any of y'all hear of this or had it happen? Or has anyone heard of Honda cars having a wheel/tire leaking problem?
This car has been through 12-13 winters and doesn't look like it's been taken care of like it should've been. I told the son to take it to a Discount tire and have them ck it.

Very common to have alloy wheels build a layer of corrosion at the bead surface here. 85% of the tires I've done that are on aluminum wheels need the surface cleaned before new tires are installed. I usually use a right-angle die grinder with a 3M Roloc bristle disc. Companies sell "bead sealer", which is a thick, black goo that lots of people use to try to bypass the cleaning procedure, but it just makes it more of a mess when you go back and fix it correctly.
I've not heard of a particular problem with Honda wheels. In my whole automotive career, I've seen two porous aluminum wheels, and neither was a Honda.
The tire shop should be able to figure it out. We still use all of the old time methods, because they work. Soapy water spray, and if that fails, the dunk tank. The bubbles don't lie.

yah, rusted rims around the bead can happen to any car with age here in the snow states. My tire guy downtown grinds the rim clean if sees rust before mounting older rims seems to work and no it is not just honda vehicles.

Yep, what they said.
The rims can be cleaned up, sealed and it'll be fine. Alloy rims need to be taken care of.

I always thought though that alloy rims made of aluminum does not rust though like black steel rims do? Still might need to be cleaned up though regardless of material made of to seal well from avoiding a slow leak.

Thanks fellas for confirming my suspicions.
Down here in South Texas I never had to deal with salted roads for any length of time. Every 2-3 yrs when there'd be chance of freezing temps the hyway Dept would salt the bridges, but that's only 30-40 yards and that was it. For only a couple of days. This was different thinking for me.
I'll holler back to my son and inform him.
I'll also tell him Rams said to watch out for Bubbles!!

One of our VW's had a tire leak down several times. I mixed up a soap solution and sprayed the tire and rim. The rim had a crack on the flat surface (opposite of the tread) where it was not tested. I took it to VW and showed them. After some debate , the rim was ordered and replaced. The car had less than a 1000 miles on it. They started to pull the impact issue with us. A very strong B S from me. The crack is inside the rim and there is no bead damage. Replaced , and ran the rest of its life with tire changes as needed.

potholes, potholes and more potholes could be a slightly bent rim...spray bottle with dawn soap and water should help you find the leak.
