What do you think about the Delta surge ?  Is the increased infection rates of the 'DeSantis' Variant as bad as being reported ?

In my county they are reporting an average of 5K per week.

The delta surge is everywhere, not just FL. It was just reported that 99% of new hospital entries are not vaccinated. I’m in AZ.

Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes. I'm even thinking about getting jabbed before heading south. Our county is now getting about 5K cases a week now.

It's really hard to find the truth.  Some people I really think are smart on both sides of the Vaccine discussion.  We got the shots early with Trish's issues with Afib.  Was not willing to take any chances and we were not willing to stay home.  We ride our bikes anywhere we want.  Took a lot of convincing to get her to take both shots.

I'm a believer in living life too, we go where we want. I've been waiting for the herd immunity thing. I like the way the Governor has handled this. I guess I'll keep track of this for the next couple months to see how its going. Pinellas County seems to be a hot spot right now, 5000 cases, 30-40 deaths/week.

Governor Cuomo or Governor DeSantis?
Had to ask since you've got both states listed.

Of course Florida is being spot lighted by the media! All you have to do is look. The Governor was/is openly a Trump supporter. His leadership is pretty far from the "do as we say" line. As for the statistics, I'm too busy getting ready for a storm that's not coming to care. I went shopping the other day, the mask wearers were at about 50%. Not saying they were being worn properly but were on the face, chin or neck. Most were cloth.

I can't stand cuomo, never could. He belongs in prison.

So far I like DeSantis. This WuFlu has been a huge learning experience for everyone and I think he has been trying to do the right thing.

Mask wearing ?

Most folks crack me up. They have no idea how to wear it. Since most are wearing them wrong, maybe, they are wearing them correctly and I'm wrong in my thinking. Here I thought the mouth and nose should be covered, apparently not.

I think there has been enough discussion/education of the proper way to wear a mask that the vast majority of our citizens do know how but, they are only complying with establishment rules that they have to have a mask on.   It's a fine line but, technically, they are wearing a mask although not correctly.

I have to shake my head as I walk around certain establishments that require masking and see the establishment's own employees incorrectly wearing their masks.   If I'm going to wear one, I'm going to wear it correctly.    I prefer to not bother with one.

While I'm sorry that someone wearing a mask incorrectly annoys you, wear it, dont wear it, wear it wrongly and it does not matter. Truth is, it does not work, no matter how you wear it and is more of a personal bug than any sort of safety issue.

I was almost ready to gag the other day, a guy comes into my office and sits down, he is wearing his mask correctly but its filthy. It has dirt and smudge marks on it and all I could do was think about how dirty it was.

How many dont clean their masks and I find that much more buggy than someone who wears it wrong. Really personal hygiene is much more of an issue in this than masks.

Take a number...

Unfortunately that herd immunity you are waiting for may never come.  The best option is vaccination, which reduces your chances of becoming severely ill with COVID to almost zero.

I keep a mask in my truck and my wife’s car. Wear it over and over until the fabric is frayed and sticking out all over the place, then I’ll break out a new one. N-95 nope ain’t getting it. I was using a bandanna early on and just keeping it in my back pocket everyday.

I’m tempted to ask a total stranger to use their mask as I approach a store and see them leaving if I can use their mask..just to see a reaction.

The bets option for some is vaccination, not for all.

Survival rate is still very high without vaccination.

Pinellas county population is near a million. So I think 5K cases and 30-40 deaths per week is significant. I'll wait and see what happens over the next couple months

I meant comparison state to state.

https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2021/08/nj-reports-1776-covid-cases-9-deaths-as-hospitalizations-remain-at-level-not-seen-in-3-months.html

“ An early coronavirus hotspot, New Jersey has now reported 26,681 total COVID-19 deaths in more than 17 months — 23,961 confirmed and 2,720 considered probable. The probable deaths, which are revised weekly, increased by one on Monday. That’s the most coronavirus deaths per capita in the U.S.”

“ Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday that of New Jersey’s 4,332 positive tests between July 20-26, nearly 18% were so-called breakthrough cases of those who had been fully vaccinated, which is up from previous weeks.”

“ But he said of the 378 coronavirus patients admitted to the state’s hospitals in that time, 97% were unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated. And of the state’s 21 coronavirus deaths in that time, all were either of unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people — the second consecutive week of no deaths among vaccinated people.”

So if people want to cry boo hoo over Florida and point their finger at the Governor there, take a look,at the politics instead and notice our governor decided to go to Italy for a vacation at his villa.

Heard a rumor today, can't say it's factual but, I heard the Harris/Biden Administration is shipping huge numbers of non-citizens illegal immigrants to Florida.   With a 20% to 25% COVID rate, that's gotta drive up the numbers.

Wouldn't surprise me if this administration is shipping them to what was lower rated COVID states.   I've tried to research where the "Non-Citizens"  illegal immigrants are being sent but, I have been unsuccessful.   It's almost like they are trying to keep it secret.  I mean really, who wants to invite a 25% infected COVID groups (Federal Invitees) to their home states.

I heard many are "popping up" in red states.  Imagine that.  Increasing COVID and crime rates for them, plus a whirlpool drain on human services resources, education systems, hospitals, law enforcement.  Thing is, we don't know who the heck they are and where they are ending up.  And that's the ones who are "processed".  How about the runaways?  Why are they running when border agents are letting others stroll right in?  Could they have bad intentions?   Huh?

Our entire nation is at risk of economic collapse, crimes of violence and victimization, disease and terrorism.  And they know it...

Mayorkas was overheard today saying this isn't sustainable.  No kidding?  It's treasonous!

We are witnessing the destruction of our nation, engineered by those whose paramount sworn duty is keeping American citizens safe.  Not cool, Joe!   Angry

I hear the same.  Our new president and his minions are flying illegals into states uninvited/unknown and supposedly thousands are infected.  The rumor is that he is doing this secretly to states such as Florida. In other words, red states and especially states where he doesn't like the governors.

This country is in big trouble and I'm not sure if it will now survive. I still don't understand how anyone could have voted for that man. Everyone knows he has been on the wrong side of every issue for 47 years.

Reading last night I read that our president brought 775,000 illegals from our southern border into Florida [ north, north to mid gulf coast and Miami area] .

No-one was ever told or fore-warned of this were they.

And they are saying most were not WuFlu tested and 20-25% of those tested were positive and released anyway.

Even though it's mostly water under the bridge, I do believe the unvaccinated are most responsible for the current spread. Both unvaccinated citizens and now unvaccinated illegal aliens.  Yes, I still use the term illegal aliens.   Wink

I do make an exception to this for people who have natural immunity from prior infection.

And yes Biden letting illegal aliens waltz right into our country is some dirty crap.  Whether they're infected or not!   Angry

I guess I'm finally realizing the state this country is really in and that we may not be able to recover.
I've always figured that we would come to our senses by now and turn things around. I'm now doubtful.

Come to Texas we will show you the problem. They are flying out covid positive illegals from Abilene Tx after dark to who knows what state. 212K just this month have come across. It is destroying the small towns down near the border. Go to the internet and bring up TV stations in Tyler Tx channel 51 or 56 on dish. They report from down there live almost every day. You will not see it outside our border, because they are sensored up north. My family in Nebraska think I am nuts when I talk how bad it is. They see nothing and read nothing in there papers. There are churches involved with housing the illegals.  We are in deep crap with all the illegals, you think the virus is bad. How would you like to live in a third world country if this open border keeps up and this administration you will. If you take the number of vaccinated 49% and those that had the covid with natural immunity 100+ million, you have heard immunity. Didn't they say 70 %.  Those of us that have natural don't count apparently,  if a card is going to be mandatory they better include us.

There are a couple, well, maybe, one news channel [ dreaded Fox] that is showing some of what is going on along the border. Its criminal what is happening and those responsible should be held accountable.

My Dad's retirement community in Delray Beach FINALLY held its first function in the community center's club house 3 weeks ago  It was a party catered by a local restaurant and there was about 6 people waiting tables and cleaning and a DJ.  About 50 guests showed up.  7 people came down with the D virus, all were seniors, non were hospitalized, all were vaccinated.

All of the guests at the party were over 70 according to Dad and ALL were vaccinated.  The virus was brought in by someone who worked for the restaurant, the club, or the DJ.  I understand people don't want to be forced, but if you are working with the elderly or the sick, you should be vaccinated and masked appropriately.

Heaven forbid my Dad gets infected as he's 85, over-weight, and has asthma.  If he gets sick and the infection can be traced back to someone who should have been vaccinated because they work with the public, or specifically the elderly, the world won't be big enough for him or her to hide in.

So 14% got it, none hospitalized.  So in that small sample, 86% effective against Delta, 100% against serious illness... not too bad.  BUT, someone brought it in.  You are justified in your sentiments about your dad.

So where's the logic in 7 vaccinated people got infected but it must have been someone there who was not vaccinated that brought the virus?

The propaganda has gotten so many of us abandoning logic and depending upon our emotions to determine right and wrong.

Incidentally if you look around at folks wearing masks, how they wear them and which they wear, you will quickly lose the concept of someone wearing a mask is protecting those around him.

If that was directed at me, I didn't say that it was an unvaccinated person that brought it in.  While it is a possibility, you read that into my comment (emotional response?).  I think you know me well enough to know that I don't think with my emotions.  I've said many, many times that the way masks are being used is ineffective at best, dangerous at worst.

I apologize.  I should have only quoted my friend in the OP.  I included yours only because of the final sentence.

it could have been one of the vaccinated folks just as easy as bring it on one of the servers. Maybe all the food preparers and servers were vaccinated as well. Never will know.
