When you fill the fuel tank it seems to allow some fuel to go thru a little hole and if you get a good nozzle and are patient you can get  more fuel in. Slow process tho. has anyone tried enlarging? this hole. Maybe a punch and wiggle it around? Dont think drilling is a good idea because of chips. Has anyone done something like this? Thanks.

Wrote this up back in '98:

I would modify this now to say you can just use a tapered punch type tool and push and wiggle it to open the hole.  The metal is soft, doesn't need to be cut.  A tool like this:

I used an awl. You’re right about chips. Just press in and wiggle around.

I used the McCuff when I lived in CA with their anti-vapor nozzles.  Still do when I slipped over the border and go far enough to need their expensive gas.   In OR don't use it.

The making the hole bigger plus a slight back and forth  movement of the bike helps to get more gas in the tank at a reasonable rate.   I fill the tank while straddling my Valk.

There is a 'collar' that extends down from the top of the tank.
If you are sitting on the bike it is high near the 1 o'clock position...

Spot on Goundul.  I found it way up at 1:00 position at like you described pinched it out bigger. Fills up to the top now is easy.

I find some gas stations nozzles suck unable to feather the lever to trickle more in slowly.  They are either full blast or nothing and too much pressure.  When I get a gas station like that,  I NEVER try filling up way to the top not worth the risk of spilling as all over for that last 1/2 gallon of gas.
