Sometimes they do this. I have repaired a few like this. I love it because my customer always thinks it can’t be done

First thing I had to do was carve all that fuzzy wood away but leave enough behind for the epoxy wood filler

Next it’s sanding and staining. That is the true artistic part. You can fix it perfectly but if the stain looks like crap no one will be happy

Real nice work there Jeff.   cooldude

I wonder if you added some habanero (real hot pepper) oil to the stain though.   Grin

Lol. I could add it to the clear. I haven’t done the polyurethane yet. That’s funny

I’m not sure I would love that dog. When you stain the repaired section, do you do anything to recreate the grain of the wood ?

I used three different brushes and did my best with heavier and lighter stain. It really came out realistic even up close

That is incredible workmanship and artistry!

Might be onto something with the habanero oil. I had a dog that kept eating garden hoses until one day I smeared Tabasco sauce all over the hose.

She took ONE bite into it, and never touched a hose again as long as she lived.

Maybe add that as an up-charge service? Wink

That was an awesome job, I am truly impressed, I thought like your customer that it would not come out that good.

Thanks. I took a chance an used gloss polyurethane and then when 90 percent dry I gently rubbed it with steel wool which took some shine off and gave it a real smooth feel like it was an old polished finish. I hate when a new finish looks new. Lol

I used to do alot of woodwork on boats and have refinished a few pieces of furniture but that takes time and effort to get the sheen and color on, good job. Its somewhat easier to make something new and install it, but its a whole another level to match something that's there. I love the projects you get involved with, and there is nothing like the smell of a wood shop.

If I ever have something like that to do you will be getting a pm from me  cooldude cooldude

They need to put some oil on the edges or some of that nasty tasting stuff for dogs to stop them chewing on it again.

Send those dogs to my dentist.

They have a cribber. That is what you call a horse that chews on the board fence rails. We had to put him in his own stall that had chicken wire on the top or a pipe stall. If he wasn't used that day he was kicked out to pasture. Some say nerves or lack of certain vitamins. No matter if he was rode all day he would still do it. That would be an outside dog in a heart beat.

I still have a few teeny tiny teeth marks on a chair when one of our now long departed dogs left when he was a tiny pup. He grew out of it and no furniture ever had to be repaired. I agree outside dog. Except in the case of this chair it’s an Alaskan Husky. Not sure it would survive a summer in Florida

We put our two Himalayan Cats outside in SoCA.  The wife just got some professional clippers and shaved then down to skin (except for face, feet and tails).  Those were some goofy looking cats, but they were much happier without all that fur (and dander).
