Doing PM preparing for my upcoming winter in my toy hauler at KOA down in Milton FL, the rear bearing mod went just fine, decided to do my belts only cause I have them and the bike is coming up on 22 years old. Install and tensioner adjust went just fine but even though the ight tensioner spins and acts normal, I am thinking maybe rebuild as no way I want to pay $110 to the stealer for one. Anyone who cares to take a look and offer an opinion I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Doesn’t sound too bad. Did you try loosening the tension a bit. It’s my experience if you adjust the tension by the measurement method according to the Honda guide it’s a bit too tight

Thanks Chris. The tension is fine, sounds good to me, I used your method instead of the book and let the spring set the tension then a little tweak. It’s the little wobble I see as the belt moves around the pulley and tensioner that has me concerned.

Ok good on the tension. I would do a couple rides and check it again. Maybe it will settle down.

I noticed the wobble in your video, but it seems the cam pulley is warped or something and it's generating the wobble. (visible at start of video footage)

Well I am going with cam pulley is a little warped, hard to believe it came that way as the only service the PO did was oil and tires for 48K miles. Just settled in for the month in Murphy NC and chomping to get riding in this area after the rain ends. Pulley holder wrench arriving Thursday and looks like replacement is not too bad if I can get the pulley and key off the end of the cam.

Yes...there's definitely a wobble in the right cam pulley. Makes me wonder about the bike's history, has it been hit on that side? If you remove that pulley for replacement, you need to make certain the seating surface is true before mounting the new one. Or spin it on a shaft that fits the hole just to see if it's the pulley itself that's warped. If it doesn't wobble once removed then you have issues elsewhere and not with the pulley.

Hi John,  no previous damage as far as I know. I’ve got a new pulley so going to just do a swap this weekend and test.  Can’t think that its the end of the cam that’s the problem but you never know. Gonna miss all that snow you are gonna get soon, will be thinking of you with my toes in the sand and a margarita in my hand

OK...I officially dislike you now.  Grin  I do have an offer from a long time friend in Texas to come spend a couple months down there. Might just take him up on it...no sand though.  Wink

I highly doubt it.

In lieu of a universal holder, you can use a 2 x 4 like in the bottom pic.

I have one of those long bars used to release the idler pulley pressure on a car's enging when replacing the belt. The socket drive end is long enough to serve as one anchor spot so I measured where the second anchor spot was needed and just drilled a hole in the bar for a bolt. Works great and is long enough I can even have the end on the floor and hold it with my knee, leaving both hands free to break something you can no longer find/order.  Wink

Yes, it's funny how you never break something that you have 6 of sitting in your way on the work bench.

I guess that you could swap the tensioners to see if the wobble follows it.
