I took an ~800 mile road trip on the Rune yesterday, since I’m a new owner. Went from northern Virginia to Rhinebeck, NY to see the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, where they feature WW1 airplanes in a small air show. The ride was amazing. Though I checked the weather for the entire route before I left, I got hit with thunderstorms coming home that evening. The rain was really coming down, and I saw some water in the speedometer display well. I took the first exit I came to and wiped the entire bike down and let it run under shelter for about ten minutes to help dry things out.

Everything looks and works fine, but I’m just curious if its a major issue to worry about. As most people know, water and electricity don’t play well together.

Rhinebeck is cool. Sorry I am no help otherwise but no worries as mother Honda would not leave you stranded

Even though this is the preeminent Valkyrie forum, there's probably only ever been a handful of threads on the Rune. And I don't ever remember that issue.

You know it was designed to be waterproof.  But if yours is taking water, some kind of shower cap (for rain riding) is probably a good idea.  My XM radio (on the handlebars) had a clear raincoat.  And it worked well.

Good idea to lay off with the hose too.

I'd stick a small fan on that thing (in the garage) for a day or so.

Loose screws, bad gasket?

My guess is there wasn’t really water in the gauge. I was on a huge Patriot Guard mission a few years ago and it poured down rain the whole mission. Over a foot of rain in three hours. I was soaked even with rain gear and the bike was soaked worse than ever. It really looked like and I really believed there was water in my gauges. I was bummed. But when I finally got home and dried everything off all was good. If there was really some water in there it would have fogged up during the drying process.

He stated it was in the well not inside the gauges is how I read it. So you had a pool of water in the gauge well on the outside of the glass?  If it was inside tbere is a bad gasket or cracked glass.

Bighead is correct. There was no water in the actual gauges, its just that it was raining so hard that water pooled in the recessed area, which had me thinking that’s probably not good (not that I intend to ride in the rain).

Almost two weeks later and no ill effects, but again it was not in the gauges, but in the well area. I just mopped it out with a clean rag and all was good. No fogging or display issues.
