OK someone we all know asked me to think about posting something about my early encounter with Sweet Cheeks. So here goes: In the Spring of 2014 I was working in Alabama. My company was looking for a hotel in a city for the 1st time. They couldn't get me in the usual Hampton Inn so I suggested another cause I wanted to stay in that city. They found me one and to my surprise A pretty lady w/ a great smile was working the desk. Now everytime I was in Central AL I'd want to stay at her hotel hoping to see her there. Most times she was and I was always greeted like it was my first visit. I leaned after more visits to Central AL that this little lady rides. Even better I had bought Renegade in Feb. 2014 and wanted to get rid of my VTX1300. On one of my visits I mentioned to her about my new to me 98 Tourer and how I loved it. She said she rides and was looking for a bike. I told her about my VTX that was for sale. So to make a long story shorter, she came to my home to see it. I actually tried to talk her out of it but her mind was made up to get it. She said if I can get my tip toes on the ground I'm buying it. They barely touched and this little lady came back a week later with a gentleman we all know as DDT to pick it up. She was on the back of Allie when they pulled up. She rode the VTX back to Central AL. She learned her VTX - BOB very well putting lots of miles on him. Later we met in Western NC that year while I was riding with a buddy. She was in VA and came down and rode with us for a day or so. A great time that I will always remember. She has put alot of miles on BOB and recently graduating to her own Valkyrie. I can't wait to catch up with her on her Valkyrie for some more riding, maybe by the next InZane

Thanks for the kind words Keith. You never know where an unexpected meeting can lead! I really enjoyed working the evening shift at the hotel as I was able to meet LOTS of interesting people. You included! When I took that job, I never imagined how much it would change my life.
My first encounter with Valkyrie’s was December of 2013. I came in one day to find that the hotel owner (Jay) had blocked a set of rooms for a motorcycle group that would be passing through on December 26. Naturally, I was working that afternoon. Enter Smokin Joe, DDT, Trout Dude, Punisher, and various others. We enjoyed shooting the shi# until I got off work at 11pm. The next day being Friday, I came back in at 7am, so I was able to see them off as well. Had they been able to wait until 3pm, I suspect my little Suzuki Intruder and I would have gone on to Dauphin Island with them.
I never suspected I would move up from my 800cc to the VTX 1300. I was planning on driving the truck and bringing a trailer to your place. Bruce just happened to call earlier that week and we all know how he likes a road trip! When he offered, I was all kinds of thrilled to ride down with him and be able to ride my new bike back to Bama.
My first “real” bike trip was July of 2014 when I rode to VA to visit a friend. I was returning home when I joined up with you and Randy. My first ride on Tail of the Dragon was with the two of you.
Then the subject of attending 2015 Inzane in Spearfish was introduced to me. I kept getting urged to attend, but didn’t feel I could ride as many miles a day as Smokin Joe, Lance, Punisher, etc. Thus my decision to ride alone and just meet up there. That really opened some doors! It reinforced to me that I could do anything I set my mind to.
After Spearfish, I left with DDT, Mitch-O, and HJ. They put up with me for over a week and took me through Beartooth Pass, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, the Million Dollar Highway, etc. what a trip! Now, six years, over 55k miles and a total of 37 states later, it was time for another challenge.
I sure as heck never thought I’d own my own Valkyrie. I’ve been a passenger on several, but if I had known how smooth they drove, I’d have bought one a long time ago. The fact that everyone in this group is so willing to help and to share knowledge is incredible. You all are awesome and I feel truly blessed to have found you!
Janice
A side note … Keith, you mentioned how only my tip toes were on the ground with the VTX. I rode that way for 3 years before I finally bought shorty shocks and got flat footed. You should have seen me the first time I sat on the Valk. It was literally like a ballerina! A huge shout out to DarkSideR for all his work getting it low enough for me. That and a pair of platform shoes have worked wonders!

It was BoB that had made Sweet Checks and I's friendship happen. Back in 2020 she was looking to tour Canada and had asked on the forum for someone to give Bob a once over to make sure he could handle the trip. I offered my services since she summers here in Colorado it seemed to make sense. Turns out BoB needed a lot of work and I ended up bonding with him for a couple of months. With BoB now roadworthy and looking better than ever it of course was time for her Sweetness to upgrade to a Valkyrie. I once again happily helped the little lady and lowered (amongst other things) the bike to make it rideable for all 5'0" of her. The picture above is her on the maiden voyage! That smile says it all. I've come to find not only is she an awesome woman, but her and I seem to click, and we ride well together. Here we are riding Grand Mesa - https://youtu.be/BWdQqcP1OFsBoB sure has a knack for bringing people together. I wonder who else that bike will bring together in future?

Young lady, we've not met...yet. Maybe at an InZane sometime...somewhere. I'll bet that smile has brightened the day for more than one hotel guest.

What a great story. No doubt lasting friendships were formed with a chance meeting. Very cool.
Good vid too, thanks for the link.

Keith,
Great story! Thanks for telling everyone about your history with Janice. She is amazing, isn't she? From that chance meeting we had with her on SmokinJoe's ride right up until today, my respect for her and her riding has continued to grow. She is far more than simply a gal who rides a scooter. She also is a kindred spirit of all who thirst for adventure and long to wander to far away regions and explore.. to see it all! Like our friend, Meathead, I too have a touch of the 'judger' in me as well...
Because of the way our relationship has evolved, I've tried to pay attention to her development, and especially to her mind-set, knowing that in time she might seek my feedback. Well, she has graded out top of the class in every aspect and on every subject I've observed! She handles her machine well, and she especially handles herself very smartly and well, also. She is indeed the real deal! Thank you for your crucial role in that ongoing saga... And, thanks again for sharing your experience in a well-written, comprehensive story, and then posting it here... You're pretty special yourself, ya know...
